Just got out of surgery. Waiting to see him in surgical ICU. The doc said he needs to eat healthy and a lot to recover.
Talked to a couple docs here and they are all big into nutrtion.
Trouble seems to happen in droves with him. I hope he can recover quickly. Poor fellow. He's already newly on oxygen. Do you think he might have fallen while trying to manipulate the tank or generator? Sometimes things can get so confusing when one is older and on drugs that gives one brain fog.

The biggest battles I had with my mom when she was staying in the rehab center after her hip surgery was when I kept her from eating sugar, sugar substitute & sugar spiking items.
Every meal had dessert or soda or chips or some other crap on the tray.
Plus, her roommate had a box full of candy & cookies she kept offering hahaha
Ya know, it paid off because she recouped the fastest they had ever seen for someone her age. She thanked me after, but boy was she pissed at me at the time LOL

I hope he recovers well but be aware that he is now in a very dangerous situation. Something like around 50% at his age will not do well in long term recovery and are gone within 6 months.
Now you know that he has weak bones if you didn't know before. Nutrition may help with the acute recovery process but not so much with the weak bones. Getting them in shape at his age is a real challenge.
Also be aware that after such a type of fall and fracture some people just plain old give up. Some people basically stop eating. Some people never get up again. Its like the fall fractures their spirit too and it takes all the recouperative powers out of them. You will know before long which way it is going to go.
Just giving you a heads up. I do hope things will go well. You are so devoted to him.

I feel bad for your father...when it rains it pours. I remember that your Dad broke his hip in '09, falling off a chair he was standing on, is this the other hip now?
Both my mother and my mother in law had broken their hips, they didn't exercise or eat particularly healthy, their health deteriorated after that.
Well, with the open-minded doctors, and having you take care of him, he has a much better chance for recovery. Hope he can recover and get strong again quickly.

Im sorry for your loss. You have been a good son to him. Take peace in knowing that he is on to a new adventure with many great and wonderful surprises.
So very sorry. It sounded like with decent doctors he was at least going to have a good chance of recovery. But eventually we all move on from this life and I agree with Arrow it is then "on to a new adventure with many great and wonderful surprises.
So do not be overly remorseful, know that what you did for him these last few years made his life livable in more ways than you might imagine. You are to be commended for the time and care you gave him.

Not that you're looking for pats on the back, but... I agree, absolutely!!
His life was so much more rewarding because of your loving care Tony.
Deepest sympathy and condolences to you, your Mother and your family. Like Arrow said, you can find comfort in knowing that you made his later years as pleasant as possible. I hope you're Mom is doing alright today.
