Default almond milk made me nauseous

Hey guys

I tried making almond milk for the first time today.. I soaked some raw/organic almonds in water overnight, then peeled the skins off.

Then I blended them with a few cups of water in my blender and added a squirt of agave nectar.

Then I strained it through a cheesecloth..

Maybe the mistake I made was.. I drank it all , pretty quickly lol..

But within a minute I was feeling pretty nauseous.. it lasted for a good 10-20 minutes.. I almost threw up but managed to calm myself down.

Anyone else had this experience?

Probably just way too rich. Start with about 4 ounces.

Hmm.. yea maybe it was too much at once.. I kinda gulped it down for some reason.. just never tried it before.

I just used blended/strained/peeled almonds and water with a squirt of agave nectar.. I feel like I should add some vanilla powder or something to add a little more to the milky flavor. Anyone know of a good/healthy powder without any weird ingredients?

Do you guys make almond milk? What do I do with all the leftover pulp? just throw it away? Seemed like I used a lot of almonds for a relatively small amount of mlik and it took some time considering the pre-soaking, peeling them by hand, blending, straining etc. just to get some milk.

Hi Moxsum, I used to have access to an almond milk recipe but I can't locate it right now. I've never made my own, seems like too much trouble, and in my mind probably just as expensive, although could be healthier.

I just tried Hempmilk yesterday (Living Harvest). I wasn't very impressed with the flavor, it's ok on cereal but I probably won't buy it again.

Hempmilk per serving = 6g fat, 25mg sodium, 12g carbs, 2g protein, 9g sugars.

Almond Breeze = 3g fat, 180mg sodium, 2g carbs, 1g protein, 0g sugars.

Rice Dream = 2.5g fat, 100mg sodium, 24g carbs, 1g protein, 11g. sugars.

I'm exploring these alternative milks myself. I don't drink milk by the glass, only use it on cereal. Seems like they all have their pluses and minuses.
