\nWe have been told that the outer containment building that blew up “because of hydrogen gas” did not damage the main reactor core thus no dangerous amounts of radiation was released.

\nFrom other reports we learn that the spent fuel rods are stored in the outer containment building.
\n
\nSo if the outer building blew up then these spent fuel storage tanks were also blown up and those that have seen video of the explosion claim to have seen what was apparently left of these old fuel rods, plutonium and all, as they were flying through the air.

\nIf that is true, and it seems reasonable, this disaster has just way surpassed Chernobyl. The deaths thus far as a direct result of the earthquake may turn out to be just the tip of the iceberg.

\nI am watching updated monitoring of backround radiation reports in the US. So far no problem. It updates every few minutes. But it is the time to load with potassium iodide. If you wait until fallout is already here it is too late... and in using lugols you can load up over a week or so instead of blasing yourself with 130 mg in one shot as the potassium iodide pills for nuclear contamination do for you... that method can be rough.\r\n

\r\n \r\n From what I have been hearing everyone is pretty much sold out of the 130mg pills.
\n Also one thing that is not overly reported about these pills is that they only offer protection from radioactive iodine. For all the other radiation you still need to rely on shielding.\r\n

\nGLN has been swamped w/orders for their Detoxified Iodine & Bentonite Clay & have a limited supply of DI
\n& have raised the price too. I paid $16 per bottle as I ordered 18 bottles last time.
\nDavid of Global Light sent an email this morning explaining how both Lugol\'s & potassium iodide have limitations
\n& some drawbacks to them.
\nPersonally, unless I lived on the USA West coast or perhaps in Europe, I wouldn\'t be worried.

\r\n \r\n We had atomic bomb testing in the middle of our own country, in the sixties and we survived. In our own backyard by comparison. I doubt that radiation from Japan could ever pose a direct threat to anyone in the U.S.
