Default A question about ashwagandha and testosterone

Does anybody know a bit about the effects this has on T levels?

I want to lift mine to good, healthy levels (I have my suspicions that stress and things might have dropped them a little) and lower my cortisol, but I don't want my T levels going TOO high.

I've heard apparently ash is an adaptogen so... it should merely balance my T levels, not simply elevate them to potentially excessive levels, right?

Sorry, just wondering, as I want to be careful right now with my body's hormonal balance

Hoppi!

You're on the right track hoppipolla. I like ashwagandha for the long list of benefits. As an adaptogen, it helps to balance the system. It helps to balance the adrenals and other glands as well. Very good for the thyroid. The reason you are on the right path, is that the adrenals are very instrumental in the production of testosterone.

The adrenals produce both cortisol and epinephrine. Balance is important. Other adaptogens can be used as well.

The B vitamins will help the liver break down excessive hormones. Zinc will help with hormone balance.

It does sound wonderful for me, as I need cortisol and stress hormone relief and a significant but not excessive boost in T (not because there's anything wrong with me, but just because I think stress and a few things brought it down a little).

So you don't think it will make it go excessively high? I was considering taking lignans (7-HMR) to mop up the excess testosterone? I am also taking resveratrol (with curcumin) you see and I'm aware that that does increase T a bit and lower E.

Wow, this stuff is all so complicated! hehe

check out this definition

https://dictionary.reference.com/browse/adaptogen

The link, that liverock presented, is a good example. The test subjects had been tested low in testosterone. This adaptogen is shown to improve the adrenal's function in the production of testosterone. Bringing the production to normal in these individuals meant that the goal was for a higher percent of testosterone.

In your case that might mean higher, lower, or nothing at all. Ashwagandha has so much more that adaptogen benefits. This is all good news.

To balance can mean more, less, or no change in order to bring you back to normal.

hmm, perhaps so! I really hope that is the case!

I guess it's taking it with resveratrol which partly block the conversion from T to E and stuff.

I think I should be ok! It's just my hormonal balance is a little fragile at the moment I think in terms of it triggering hair loss (I believe my hair loss was principally caused by a collection of things pulling my T levels down, all of which were my own fault).. hmm! I'll do some more research, but probably end up with Sensoril yes

Thank you for the advice, this forum is very helpful! I am getting a little more clued up as well so hopefully I'll be able to give a little bit more back to the community soon, as I've been too noobish up till now! lol ^_^

Ha, I just realized this is basically a carbon copy of my old thread, almost! Sorry about that one!

You know what's weird? My reasons for being concerned about T levels have mostly changed, I have learnt so much since the last thread, and yet come back to the same old question lol ^_^

There was me thinking I'd progressed! hehe

Sorry about that, but still, it's all been helping me immensely and I think I am knocking on the door to recovery!

I can't wait! ^_^
