I read people saying...reverse osmosis works well at removing unwanted stuff...but its expensive. These same people then talk highly of Big Berkey filters.....what?!

Almost all RO systems I have seen that install under your sink are under 200....

the Big Berkey costs over 250.....wtf are these people smoking?

both have to be cleaned out around yearly....sometimes the RO ones need to be cleaned around twice a year.....plus you get more water from the RO ones.....

RO systems, from what i have seen are cheaper than the Big Berkey water systems.....

I'm planning on buying a water filter...that's why I've been looking into this.
At this point, its just a matter of which RO system to buy.

I have an old Sears unit got it maybe 8 years ago(?) and has given good service. it consists of two conventional filters (I use activated charcoal) and the RO filter.

I replace the regular filter at regular intervals. I have replaced the RO filter ($40) only once.

When I was replacing the RO filter I found out that Sears had discontinued the model and not longer carried replacement parts. I have had this problem with Sears before. Anyway it is similar/same as a current GE model.

When looking for a system check to see that the pre and post filters use standard replacement filters. Apparently the newest latest and greatest filters are less messy to change, but you pay dearly for this convenience.

Reverse Osmosis is very unhealthy it demineralizes the water.

Sea minerals can be added to the water to remineralize it. Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt are good options. 1/4 tsp. per gallon. Not much is needed.

I've had a reverse osmosis system for several years but am concerned about fluoride. It doesn't remove it all.

that seems a good bit expensive....
so mountain spring water doesn't have any fluoride in it?
