What is good for diaper rash (reddness) for a baby? (6 months)

what is good to rub on their bottom for preventative rawness/redness?

Time out of the diaper is really good, as well as frequent bathing.
When my kids had diaper rash they got several from the waist down quicky baths a day at the kitchen sink after diaper changes.

I liked A & D ointment.

Sometimes diaper rashes increase with teething.. I don't know what its all about but it does happen.. some kind of upset in the biology occurs with teething for some kids.
The treatment is the same.

By far the most effective and cheapest is plain old baking soda. Mix a tsp in a glass of water and apply gently. One application should do it but you may have to do it a second time a couple of hours later. Diaper rash is caused by fungus spores attracted by a wet bottom so changing a wet diaper right away is important to prevent recurrence.

My kids butts went in the sink & splashed with warm water with every diaper change & pat dry with a towel. And as often as you can keep them out of a diaper, the better.

During the summer when they were toddlers, I'd just put those terry cloth panties/shorts on them & let them run around the yard like that.

It is linked to ovarian cancer, I edited that previous post. I don't know why, I am not a researcher, doctor or a women to know. One day a guest on the Gary Null Show was discussing this subject and he said that when they examined most ovarian tumors they found talc.

And if it is a yeast rash cornstarch feeds yeast... but I think much of the common diaper reash is bacterial.

A lot of diaper rash is a burning from the acids in the stool and therefore not even bacterial... frequent washing is the best cure all..

I hate it when parents plaster on crap and don't wash frequently enough... How many times a day would you be in the shower if you were incontinent?

lots of warm baths, running around naked or at least when asleep for daytime nap, undo the diaper.. Dont waste your money on baby powder...just buy cornstarch...so much cheaper and works better...
Do you use cloth or paper diapers? I read an article, awhile back, about the amount of chemicals that were being put into a particular extra absorbant type paper diaper, was causing burns on kids... Apparently some folks felt there should be a recall, but the company refused to recall, and pretty much squelched the flame... their comment was that not enough folks had complained, and basically diaper rash happens.... But it might be something for you to look into... I wish I could remember the brand, for some reason, Im thinking it was the latest pampers one, but I dont remember for sure.

I used Desitin [sp?] Ointment but that was almost 50 yrs ago. Also, straight cornstarch at times.
I agree, antibiotics always caused a diaper rash on my babies. Also, some baby foods but I don't recall
which ones.
Changing diapers frequently & washing their bottoms thoroughly w/every diaper change worked best.
Also, it seemed that the more water they drank, the less likely they got a rash.
