Default Bile supplement.

What is the difference between "Bile Acids" and "Ox Bile" supplement? I understand that the acids/salts are taken from ox bile, but I am assuming that the various acids are somehow extracted then put back together again into a totally new product, as opposed to just stuffing the entire dehydrated ox bile into a pill.

Which do you think is a better supplement?

I cant answer your question but I know several naturopaths that recommend the Standard Process bile supplement. I have some in storage and will look for the name of it. I purchased it for my husband when he had his gall bladder removed but he never needed it.

Thanks muchly for your replyl I am surprised that a person without a gallbladder would be healthy without a supplement of bile, though.

You still make bile and it still gets into your digestive tract after gallbladder removal. Some people do better than others. Some really need the supplement but docs dont tell them about it... they just let folks suffer

Thank you for your info. I hope that no one will conclude, though, that there's a reasonable chance they will be 100% okay after having gallbladder removal. It was put there for a reason, bile salts in pill form notwithstanding.

One knows if they need it or not but how they feel in their digestive process. If it is needed the digestive process will cause distress. Some folks only need it with high fat meals or very large meals. Proplems with the digestion of fats is the key.

Arrow, what do you think if people eating combinations of foods that supposedly were not designed to be eaten together, e.g. fish or meat & cheese; bread and meat, etc. etc. If we are going to eat these heavy foods together, I would take enzymes just in case.

Well your enzymes come from the pancreas for the most part. Bile is the only digestive enzyme the liver secrets that I know of.
All I can say is that some people can still eject enough bile rapidly enough when they eat fatty foods. Fats stimulate the secretion of bile which digests fats. The gall bladder stores it for a fast instant release, but it appears that for some people its not an issue as the liver responds quickly enough and shoots it down the common bile duct in time.
