Most people don't realize that most of the nutrients in fruit is in the skin and seeds, not in the fleshy part... so this study, while very interesting, does not surprise me.

Orange peel, lemon peel, apple peel, etc., has been showing amazing results for years... in everything from better health to great natural cleaning supplies... that is why I juice the whole fruit, skin and seeds included..

I don't know... But it certainly lends credence to when some people have told me to "go smoke a banana peel"....

Maybe they were in fact trying to be helpful in some way?

On a more serious note, yes, the peels and skins of many fruits and vegetables that we discard are actually where the bulk of the "good stuff" comes from. Take potato peels for example. 9 times out of 10 we will peel them and not eat them. The potato peel has an abundant supply of nutrients.

Try baking potatoes with the skin on, they taste better too!

I love baked potatoes, there used to be a Resturaunt here a few years ago called Sizzlers, all you could eat in two hours for around $8 a meal, they use to have deep fried potato peel's as an item on the menu, and they were yummy, although probably not as good for you as raw.
The thing is these days you would have to make sure and wash the friut and veg thoroughly before eating, unless its organic.

MMM Potato Skins.. Fried? Yep.. Probably not the best for you, but tasty nonetheless! Loaded with cheese, Bacon, Whipped cream, and chives? Yeah, wouldn't want to do that every night of the week!

Yes, you should always wash your fruits and vegetables really well, as some supermarkets also spray some sort of chemical on their produce to keep it fresh (it isn't always just water, if you aren't sure ask someone who works there).
