\r\n \r\n I believe that magnesium can seem to be deficient also because of too much calcium in contrast to magnesium. One should maintain a balance. Another is that magnesium, being an alkaline metal, needs acid for digestion.
\n
\nMy preference is magnesium chloride. Transdermal, in the form of magnesium oil, might be the best, but I also like it in tablet form for convenience https://www.iherb.com/Alta-Health-Mag...-Tablets/10682
\n
\nAlso an acid bound magnesium that is excellent is magnesium malate (malic acid bound). https://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals...-Capsules/1268\r\n

\r\n \r\n Magnesium Supplements Lower Blood Pressure, Prevent Calcification
\n
\n 22 human magnesium supplement trials concludes that magnesium can lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
\n
\nA new animal study shows that magnesium can help clear out arterial calcification while reducing damage to the vascular system.
\nIn the human blood pressure trials the best results occurred with doses from 370 mg up to 970 mg magnesium per day. The higher the dose the better the response. The study is important because magnesium deficiency is common in the United States, especially among people who struggle with ongoing health issues.
\n
\nIn the animal study researchers tested the effect of magnesium supplements on calcification of arteries. They found that magnesium relieved the degree of calcification with higher doses, offering better protection. They concluded that magnesium “plays a role in the pathogenesis of vascular calcification by reducing vascular calcification and decreasing vascular injury.”
\n
\nMagnesium is involved with many enzymes and other factors associated with cardiovascular function. Refined foods and magnesium depleted soils have placed the entire American population at risk of deficiency of this key mineral. It is nice to see that supplementing with magnesium can make such a difference.
\n
\nMagnesium Intake Lowers Stroke Risk
\n
\n
\nA meta-analysisA quantitative statistical analysis of several separate but similar experiments or studies in order to test the pooled data for statistical significance. of seven stroke studies which, also evaluated magnesium intake, has clearly shown that higher magnesium levels protect against ischemic stroke (the most common type). Each 100 mg increment of magnesium intake per day was associated with an eight percent risk reduction for stroke.
\n
\nMagnesium is a key anti-inflammatory mineral that relaxes your nerves and arteries, and supports healthy electrical signaling to your heart. A majority of Americans lack optimal magnesium intake due to a refined-food diet, and soils that lack magnesium from poor farming methods.
\nThe current study, involving 241,378 participants, is published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition along with an editorial asking for public health officials to take action.
\n
\nFor anyone with common sense, such public health action should be a “no-brainer.” Who would not be in favor of easy nutrition recommendations to reduce strokes, the number one killer in America? We could start with the American Heart Association and American Medical Association, not to mention the Food and Drug Administration. Unfortunately, drug sales trump public health education, especially when good nutrition is the clear winner.
\n
\nAs I mentioned yesterday, flavonoids Plant compound that is associated with pigmentation. Flavonoids have been shown to modify allergens, viruses, inflammation, and various carcinogens. Found in green tea, citrus, berries, onions, parsley, red wine, dark chocolate, and others. are now shown to reduce the risk of stroke. In addition to magnesium, so does DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. Must be gotten through the diet via cold water oceanic fish or some very limited plant sources or taken as a supplement. from fish oil and vitamin D. All of these nutrients are common deficiencies in America.

\nMagnesium Reduces Sudden Cardiac Death Risk in Women
\n
\n
\nResearchers at Harvard Medical School followed 88,375 women for 26 years, evaluating their magnesium intake, blood levels of magnesium, and the number of sudden cardiac deaths (heart attacks – often caused by arrhythmia). Women with blood levels of magnesium1 in the highest quartile had a 77% reduced risk of sudden cardiac death.
\n
\nMagnesium is a fundamental mineral for health, involved in over 300 vital enzyme reactions needed to maintain health. Many of these are related to cardiovascular health, including heart rhythm stability, blood pressure regulation, and inflammation reduction.
\n
\nThere is no drug or combination of drugs that can claim a similar rate of reduced mortality for a sudden cardiac arrest. Since magnesium is low in many diets and is used up by stress it is one of the most important nutrients in a basic supplement support program.
\n
\nMagnesium Deficiency Sets the Stage for Plaque in the Arteries
\n
\n
\n
\nA new animal study shows that low levels of magnesium1 promotes plaque formation in the arteries. During the study period magnesium deficient animals developed significantly more plaque in their aortas.
\n
\nThe researchers fed rabbits a diet known to produce atherosclerotic plaque. The thickness of artery walls increased 42% in magnesium lacking animals. LDL cholesterol Low-density lipoprotein. It is a group of lipids and proteins that allow lipids like cholesterol, triglycerides, and fat soluble nutrients (Vitamin A, D, E , K, Q 10, carotenes) to be transported with the water-based bloodstream. was highest in the magnesium lacking rabbits and lowest in the magnesium supplemented rabbits.
\n
\nThis study adds further science to the idea that a diet lacking in magnesium sets the stage for heart disease.
\n
\n
\nI would be willing to bet that at least half of the people who visit this forum are deficient in magnesium, and that includes the members as well.
\n
\nMagnesium must be balanced with calcium, as stated by jfh, and both must balance vitamin D in order to be absorbed properly.
\n
\nThere are 73 other vitamins/minerals that are equally important, and deficiency in any will cause health issues..\r\n

People with kidney failure should only supplement with magnesium under a doctors supervision.
