Default Lupus - diet and exercise recommendations

April 2011 I woke up with an awful condtion that looks like it could be leaning towards lupus. Testing is still going on. Possibly Fibromegelia (sp?).

I've become more gluten free in the past 2 years, more organic whole foods, natures sunshine supplements prescribed by my Naturopath (2yrs ago started) and was doing a detox & fasting up till the weekend this disease came on.

For exercise I used to run 5ks and am with the AF reserve (2 test a year). As the swelling keeps taking over and pain in muscles, I've not been able to do those things. I also like surfing on the lake, but some other time circumstances have not made that possible. Thanks.

Obviously, for the health you had previously to this situation you likely have a very good immune system. The disease Lupus and fibromyalgia IMHO are the results of an attack of a microbe that your body does not know how to deal with. The idea of autoimmune system disorders is largely fallacy. Don't fall for it. Try attacking the pathogen that your doctor does not know how to find.

You will never know unless you try. And if you don't try you will likely be stuck where you are for a very long time

Arrowwind. Thank you for your advice. It may be something I'll have to look into. I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. My father passed away last week and I was taken out in an ambulance last sunday at his memorial. Admitted to the hospital for a lot of testing and got out on Tuesday. They are agressively treating me for lupus now along with many test. Not the brain or heart so far. But I've been very faint, low blood pressure, since April my white blood cell count continues to go down...and my weight dropped a lot in one week (what I was 20yrs ago). PRetty scarey....prednesone has been uped and they'll start me on another drug used for maleria next week.

Greensurfer, I am taking the other approach. Lupus is an autoimmune disease and here are some recommendations:

1) DHEA 25 mg a day
2) Cut down on meat and big time on dairy
3) Aloe vera Juice
4) Serrapeptase or Fibrozyme (available from iherb.com) Take as directed on the bottle.
5) Turmeric, fish oil, ginger root
6) If you can, fast walk 5 times a week.

Thanks Saved, I'll see if I can try some of these. Where is DHEA bought?
Walking is something I will be intergrating as time allows. Right now 10hr days at work and then 16hrs sleeping on the days off has made things a slow process when I'm the only one managing things (house work, etc)....also AF reserve....but I'm already trying to make plans with friends to get walks in.

Going from Running to walking is going to also be a challange mentally. Same with not being able to surf (longboard in the fall) for a while. My job with the highway department though has me walking though since I do repairs on the roads - tarring, crum rubber and such. I just hope that I don't have the lupus that is affected by the sun since I'm in it all the time.

You can get it at www.iherb.com, if you are older than 50 yoyu can take 50mg for a while, but it can make you edgy.
