Yes, studies have found cinnamon to be effective in preventing diabetes. There are also other herbs and spices such as cloves, oregano and Sage are others that can help prevent diabetes.

Cinnamon will also help to lose weight, as the article above states, however, small amounts will have small benefit..

My family doctor told me to eat cinnamon to increase insulin resistance. She also mentioned a Mediterranean food called chilbe.

I would like to know how much of these foods/spices one has to eat per week to have an effect?

For cinnamon, you can buy the capsules and take 2 in the morning or take a couple cinnamon sticks and simmer in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes and drink one cup per day of the day (split into 2 doses)

there are two different types of cinnamon , 'cassia' cinnamon native to Asia is the one commonly found in shops because it has an intense flavour ,it is best suited for cooking but 'cassia' cinnamon should not be used in therapeutic doses as it has 0.5% coumarin which is toxic in high doses.

'true cinnamon' or Indian cinnamon is from Ceylon and the only one that should be used therapeutically since it has only 0.0004% coumarin
'true cinnamon' is not normally stocked in shops as it is less flavoursome
you would have to buy it from a specialty outlet or a natural health food shop
I think iherb may stock it

Cinnulin PF is the form often used in research.

Natural Factors, WellBetX, Cinnamon, Extract 20:1, 150 mg, 60 Capsules

Doctor's Best, Best Cinnamon Extract, 125 mg, 60 Veggie Caps
both are quite reasonable at IHERB. I use iherb for cheap shipping to uk.
You may find cheaper amazon/google depending on discounts/shipping where you live.
Code WAB666 saves iherb newbies $5 initially.

I have been having cinnamon sprinkled on my breakfast every morning for at least a year now, but after reading Saved, Audi, and Teds recomendations I think i will get the capsules, as i have been getting the powder from the supermarket, and it most likely isn't the right one to use.
Thanks saved, Audi and Ted
