Default Muscle tension and spasms in neck, throat and jaw - voice massage

Hello everyone,

I just joined this forum the the other day. I've had some health problems lately, many of which seem to be caused by tension and muscles spasms in my neck, throat, jaw, upper back and shoulders. The origin of the pain is in my jaw. I have also had lots of stress lately, partly because of not being well. So I am looking for some ways of getting myself healthier.

I have started taking a medicine prescribed by a doctor, magnesium and I do exercises and relaxation everyday. I will also get a bite guard today to help me. I have also had 5 massages, which helped some. Someone recommended I try voice massage. I read about it and I am interested in trying it.

Does anyone here have experiences from voice massage? I would be interested in hearing about your experiences.

And would anyone have any idea where to find some to do voice massage (preferably in Monterey Bay area in California or no more than a couple of hour's drive away)? I tried to look online but I didn't find anyone.

Welcome to natmedtalk. I was going to recommend magnesium but I see you are doing that. What form of magnesium are you taking?

I am taking a chewable one from Via Naturale. It has magnesium citrate (300 mg), B6, D3 and selene. As my symptoms are quite bad right now, even any tiny suggestions are most welcome (in case you have a better magnesium product in mind...).

As for exercise, I do Feldenkrais method (for my jaw only), jaw exercises according to doctor's instructions and yoga (for the rest of my body). I would like to start some other kind of exercise, too, to strengthen my muscles - not just in my neck and jaw but all over. One thing I haven't liked very much is that I've had to see three different doctors. Medicine is so localized, which has its benefits, of course, but I would like to see someone who could treat me as a whole, as I feel my muscle tension from my jaw is affecting my whole body.

Mag citrate is a good form. I would try accupuncture. Surely in the area you live there are chinese herbal stores with herbalists (that do accupuncture). I would definitely try one of them.

My suggestion is to try a T.E.N.S. unit. They don't cost a lot, even for a fairly good one. When applied directly to, say, the throat or jaw it can quickly relax those muscles.
I once used one on my Adam's Apple and my voice sounded 10 years younger just like that. Good luck.

Hi CaliforniaHippie! As far as the tension and muscle spasms in your neck, back and shoulders, topical application of Magnesium Oil works very well. It can make certain people itchy, I mix mine with a bit of lotion for that. Swason Vitamins sells it at a reasonable price.
