Default Memory loss?

When in school, I always pay attention. I don't talk (in fact I don't really talk to anyone). But once I focus on something else, or just wait till later in the day, I forget what I have learned. It's like it went right out the other ear. Could this be a memory problem, maybe short term? Because I really do try hard to remember.

Been there. Done that. It could be nothing more then just a boring class.

However here is a memory trick that works:
Convert what you are trying to remember into a mental pictures. The more absurd and ridicules the better. Pictures are easier to remember and easier to recall later.

if you have trouble with this, make sure you always do the homework. Maybe you have a hard time listening, but learn better in other ways.

I found that when I actually had to come up with answers to homework, that's when I learned a lot. and study with someone else. that helps.

Spidey - maybe you just need to find out what your best learning style is. Here is a snip from
https://www.howtolearn.com/personal.html

"Visual learners can do this all so quickly that it's hard for other kinds of learners to understand how they do it. And it's harder yet for parents of kids who are not visual learners to understand what it is that's causing their child to get lower grades.

This all sounds so simple; yet, other kids, with different learning styles like auditory or tactile/kinesthetic, don't do what visual learners do naturally. It's not because there is anything wrong with them, it's just that no one's analyzed exactly how schools are set up, or shown them how to add the visual learning style traits they need to succeed in school."

After I discovered my learning style - right brain, visual = then taking tests was much easier for me.!

Spidey, if you really remember as you say, then you can just try a simple self-hypnosis technique: Affirm to yourself that you'll remember what you just learned before you go on to another subject that you would concentrate on.

Hypnotizing yourself by believing what you said will just worsen the situation. So snap out of it.

Some people are just slower learners than others. It may take you a couple days to memorize something. People also learn differently. The teacher may not being teaching you a way that sticks in your head. But hopefully things get easier for you. Just find a method that helps you memorize stuff.
