Default If you were starting from scratch.

If you take the average westerner, say 30 years old, who has consumed processed food etc and lived an average westerners life up until that point, what would you recommend for them to clean out their entire body and return to optimal health?

Initial step is to stop consuming processed food, etc . . . Difficult to 'clean out' if we keep making a mess.

What sparked the interest?

The traditional response would be a 7 day fruit and vegetable 'cleansing' diet. Raw, lightly cooked and juiced.

Window dressing really.

The solution is to adopt a healthy diet and lifestyle, one that you are comfortable with and so will be able to stick to it. Then everything healthwise will shake down.

Not withstanding any moral issues you may have i.e. vegetarian, vegan...A healthy diet is going to be centred on fruit and vegetables, organic if you have the financial wherewithal to do so.
And: Nuts (walnuts and almonds are best), seeds and pulses (the humble baked bean is a nutritional powerhouse and hugely underrated - lose that sugary sauce though), grains (oats is the one that stands out. Another hugely underrated food. Quinoa is technically not a grain, but is usually classified in this group. a marvellous source of sustaining plant protein)

A healthy diet is going to be centred on natural foods. The human body is set up to digest and absorb nutrients from natural foods, rather than processed foods. The latter should be avoided as much as possible, preferably altogether.

Best first step advice to begin your journey.

The challenge is to change your habits. It's very easy to grab the easiest thing to make when you're hungry or tired. The thing that helped me most was taking a few minutes to plan weekly meals/grocery lists 2 weeks in advance so I'm ready to shop on certain nights on my way home from work.
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
Freeze main dish meal portions for quick microwave heat-ups.
Change the way you view food. Eat for energy, not comfort.

There is only one way to become healthy, and its not rocket science.

First, you have to keep out the crap, because whatever goes into your body will either have a positive influence or a negative influence, no exceptions. This includes food, air, water, vaccines, chemicals, radiation, organisms, and thoughts.

And secondly, you must give your body all the necessary raw materials (in the form of all 90 nutrients) in order to protect and repair it on a daily basis.

Most people treat their car better than they treat their body..

Ifra red saunas? Sweating out the junk, maybe?

Drink/bathe in only clean water *by clean I mean no chlorine/fluoride/mercury, etc.

Eat for your blood type for awhile?

(NO corn. PUHLEASE. Ever never. In ANY form/shape/syrup/additive). Or soy - unless fermented and organic.

Good HEALTHY FATS.

NO grains. Use the pseudo grains: buckwheat, quiona, amaranth - in LIMITED amounts, if you must. GMO free versions, too.

I prefer grass fed/grass finished beef and bison meats. But only once a week. Cod. Maybe salmon. Chicken only if I know who I am buying it from and they MUST be organic free range. Not those caged abused chickens, eating gmo corn/soy/etc. The best is unprocessed fresh, clean fruits and veggies. We are at a limited amount of veggies here due to weather, and I do not buy anything in a can. I try and find frozen and add some type of protein.

Rebounder. (mini trampoline) Hear it is great to get your lymph system moving - and dry skin brushing.

Take it slow, tho. It is a life style change and doing too much, too soon just might cause you to feel sick at times. Slow and steady.

Earthing to clear out computer stuff.

Good luck

Default Healthy fat?

I tend towrd the 'Paleo' diet form and use avacado as a
good fat form.

Can anyone out there reveal any other fat that is as good
or even nearly as good as avacado?

Also

The IR sauna system doesn't do it for me, but a regular
180+ degree sauna does. It would be nice if an IR sauna
would produce perspiration, but they just don't for me.

I am still sweating from last night's IR sauna! I don't know why this happens to me. I was sweating all night long and thru out the day. I am just now cooling!?

As for fats, I found this *I tend to copy/past alot: You can make sure you get enough fat at each of your meals
while following the Paleo diet by
:
  • choosing fatty cuts of pastured meats (but avoid fatty cuts of conventionally raised meats because of their high pro-inflammatory omega-6 content);
  • eating eggs (not just the white, you NEED the nutritious yolks!) regularly;
  • using generous amounts of ghee, lard from grass-fed cows or coconut oil to cook/fry your food;
  • serving your vegetables with butter or ghee;
  • adding a few slices of avocado to your salads;
  • including bones and bone marrow when making stews;
  • preparing curries with coconut milk or coconut cream;
  • treating you to a few slices of bacon (ideally nitrate-free and from pastured pigs or wild boar);
  • dipping your food in homemade mayo (made with healthy oils) or guacamole; or
  • drizzling you vegetables and salads with extra virgin olive oil, macadamia oil or homemade salad dressings made with health fats.
*If your gallbladder was removed (cholecystectomy) or if you were used to eating a low-fat diet, make sure you increase your fat intake gradually when starting on the Paleo diet to help your body adjust by secreting adequate amounts of digestive enzymes. Some people may benefit from taking supplements of digestive enzymes and ox bile to facilitate the digestion of fat. Consult a health professional for advice in this regard.

No offence, but that 'recommendation' is a heart attack waiting to happen...

I disagree.

Saturated fat does not cause heart attacks, never has, never will..

Perhaps you should explain why you think that recommendation is a heart attack waiting to happen..

I concentrated on the FATS. In response to Donee's question
Quote:

The same site also recommends:

Quote:
Fill up your plate with:
  • Animal protein: fish, seafood, beef, bison, pork, wild boar, offal, game meat, poultry and eggs… pastured, grass-fed and free-range are best!
  • Vegetables: leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, onion, garlic, tomato, asparagus, mushrooms… local, seasonal and organic is best!
  • Healthy fats: coconut oil, avocado, olives, ghee, lard, tallow, olive oil*, macadamia oil*, butter**, cream**
  • Fruits: berries, melon, figs, banana, dates, pineapple… local, seasonal and organic is best!
  • Tubers, roots and starchy vegetables: sweet potatoes, yams, peeled potatoes, plantains, yucca, cassava, squashes, beets…
  • Nuts: dried and fresh unsweetened coconut, coconut milk/cream, macadamia nuts, walnuts, almonds…
    in moderation
  • Spices and seasonings: crystal salt, freshly ground pepper, herbs, spices, vinegar, wheat-free tamari sauce, coconut aminos
Donee - Try finding artisanal olive oils. They cost a bunch, but are the least rancid/damaged thru shipping and storing. Lambda from Greece. Castillo de canena and Portico de la Villa from Spain. (use COLD)

Saw this in my email box from Dr. Mercola's site. Goes on to say: Acceptable oils include:
  • High quality extra virgin olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Avocados
  • Organic, grass-fed butter
  • Rendered fat from cooking healthy animals can also be used

I wouldn't have thought it needed explaining...
