Default Low Blood Pressure

I purchased a blood pressure cuff a month ago. My average reading is 90 over 60. These numbers seem too low.

That does seem very low. 120/80 is the norm. Cardiologists would like to see lower, like 110/70. I think that is ridiculous. When my pressure gets lower than the norm, I feel exhausted. I am now about 124/72 plus or minus a few points. Pulse about 55.

You indicated that your pulse gets higher when you stand. That seems normal, but not 10 or 15 points higher. It means that something is making your heart work harder. And even then, the rate should come down quickly after such a measurement.

It might be a good idea to go to your local drug store and do the self pressure test. They normally have those available near the pharmacy counter. At least CVS does.. This will give you and idea of a benchmark to measure against your cuff. I had a cuff, and it was consistently lower than my arm monitor.

BTW, my cardiologist wants me to exercise for 20 minutes where the pulse rate is around 120. He says it is easily achievable. Not going to happen. Isn't there a pill for that?

Although both numbers are important, the second number is the pressure in your arteries between heart beats, or while the heart is at rest.

The heart is a pump, controlled by muscles that are controlled by chemical and biological reactions. In laymans terms, the higher the pressure the sooner the pump (and/or arteries) will wear out.

Pressure is important, however, pulse rate is even more important, because the lower the pulse rate the longer you can live. This of course depends on many other factors, including nutrient deficiency, etc..

mommysunshine, my blood pressure readings are often as low as that, taken with our home monitor, but I always feel fine, but then I am a very relaxed sort of person, I can never understand why I was once put on high blood pressure meds,I think if you were feeling dizzy with it , i think you should be more concerned.
