Default Restoring hormonal balance after The Pill

Hi all,

Hoping somebody has some experience with this and can help me out. At age 24, in my infinite wisdom, I decided to go on The Pill. I'd never been comfortable with the idea of putting hormones into my body but did it anyway (under pressure from my ex-partner, long story!). I had never been on any type of hormone-altering treatment before and my doctor put me on a tablet called Loette, which was apparently the lowest dose pill available.

Despite this, the effects were almost immediate and awful. Within a month, my libido had completely vanished. Any attempts to have sex just resulted in discomfort and pain. There were various other side effects, bloating and just general ill feeling, and I persisted with it for 1yr (switching to another low-dosage pill mid-way for the sake of it) before giving it up.

It took 9mths before my periods returned. And now, after 1 1/2yrs, my libido has come back to some extent, but is still not back to normal and there is still some pain. I've been reading forums where some people are saying that 10yrs have passed and they are still not back to normal, which is a scary thought.

I was just wanting to know if anyone else is in a similar position, or has found any natural methods to help with balancing their hormones? Thanks :-)

I would suggest that you go to a doctor who does bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and who also diagnoses by saliva samples as you will get a better test result this way, as opposed to tests off a blood sample with can be quite variable thoughout the cycle and in in a cycle of a day.

Supplementing with the needed hormones that are specifically compounded for you by a compounding pharmacy may be of a great help to you. these hormones are from natural products. By tweeking and adjusting over time you may be able to restore better normal function... Also a doctor that does this kind of work may be able to advise you nutritionally and perhaps with other modalities such as herbs etc. Seek a doctor who prides him/herself in using alternative therapies. This could be an ND or an MD.

More than likely you need natural progesterone. I would not do a doctor type of hormone therapy. That puts extreme stress on your liver and you could end up worse with migraines, headaches, mood swings, PCOS, vaginal infections, etc.

You don't need much of progesterone. You can go to a ND that does MRT and can manually see if you need progesterone. Wild Yam is also a great choice. Testing your liver would be great as well. When your liver is full of toxins and can't detox them fast enough it can cause the rest of your body to be imbalanced such as your thryoid which can cause you to not have normal periods too or ovulate the way you should be.

Thanks for your responses. Sorry I'm so new to this, but could you possibly tell me what MRT is? I googled it but it came up as a type of food allergy testing.

MRT is muscle response testing. What you were looking for is what it is most commonly used for, but you can test for other things as well. I do MRT but just know the basics. I am getting ready to take an in depth class on it next month so that way I can test people for lack of vitamins, minerals or hormone imbalances.

The biggest thing is you have to get good quality supplements if you don't they won't work. It will be like wasting money.

MRT is really an amazing tool and good to learn and know. I have saved quite a few trips to the ER because I was able to muscle test my kids. ( I got 5 of them) The only time my husband has ever doubted me was a little over a year ago and he never did after that and probably never will. I muscle tested my son and it his transverse and decending colon tested extremely weak. I grabbed one of our anti-virals and put it to it and it tested really strong. So I knew that he had a virus in the colon. Well my husband had it too and he went to the ER any way. He called me about an hour later after he went back to a room and he said that the doctor told him it was a virus in the colon. It has been very effective with us.

Aguaje has worked wonders for me. Birth control pills just left me dry and I had no desire to have sex. I have been off them for a year and on aguaje since February and things are getting back to normal. My libido is somewhat back, the dryness is gone which was such a pain! My boobs are fuller, I'm getting my womanly shape back. Another herb I like is muira puama that one will make you horny! LOL

Hi seekinghealth,

I'm in a similar position to you - very similar story. How are you doing now? Did you find anything that really helped?

Thanks
