Cirrhosis of the Liver


Description

Cirrhosis of the liver is considered a chronic disease. It is recongized by degeneration and hardening of liver cells. This type of scarring of the liver tissue causes improper functioning of this valuable, hard working organ.


Causes and Symptoms

This liver disease may result from alcoholism, malnutrition, viral hepatitis or chronic imflammation of liver ducts. Early signs include fever, indigestion, diarrhea or constipation and jaundice. Symptoms which can occur later in the disease are edema, anemia, and bleeding disorders. Sufferers often show a deficiency of b-complex vitamins, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin K.
