Lightbulb Serratiopeptidase for Inflammation

Serratiopeptidase has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is particularly useful for post-traumatic swelling, fibrocystic breast disease and bronchitis. It is able to digest dead tissue, blood clots, cysts, and arterial plaques. Clinical studies have shown it to be effective at reducing swelling and edema and metabolizing scar tissue in the body.

A 2003 study found that 30mg of serratiopeptidase was effective at loosening and reducing mucous build-up in respiratory pathways. This was credited to its ability to reduce the neutrophil white blood cell numbers and to improve the viscoelasticity of the sputum in patients with chronic airway disease.

Serratiopeptidase is also renowned for its ability to reduce pain by blocking the release of pain-inducing molecules from inflamed tissues. There are no known side effects with this. The most common pain-reducing aids are aspirin, ibuprofen and acetaminophen, which are called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID`s). These drugs are known to deplete renal and hepatic glutathione and to deplete the body of critical B vitamins and trace minerals leading to stomach, kidney, liver and heart problems.

A 2008 study compared Serratiopeptidase and its anti-inflammatory activity with 2 human pancreatic proteolytic enzymes (trypsin and chymotrypsin) and aspirin. Although all groups were effective at reducing inflammation, serratiopeptidase was the most effective. (6) It was also proven to be effective at reducing swelling and pain intensity in individuals with carpel tunnel and sprained ankles.(7-8) Other studies have shown similar anti-inflammatory effects after oral surgery was performed.(9)

A 2006 study looked at the role serratiopeptidase has on improving immunity. This experimental animal study involved implanting a biofilm-forming bacteria (Staphylococcus epidermis) into a group of rats. The group given serratiopeptidase was highly effective at eliminating this infection. The researchers credited the antibiofilm properties of this specific enzyme as being the key factor. It is also hypothesized that this enzyme may be used to make antibodies more effective. (10)

Serratiopeptidase has been used in Europe and Asia for over 30 years. It is still relatively new in the United States and Canada. Most experts agree that more research is needed with this enzyme; however, the preliminary results look very promising. Many supplement manufacturers are beginning to use this compound with outstanding results. Serratiopeptidase appears to be a major player in anti-inflammatory protocols of the future.

Since most inflammatory conditions at initial onset of treatment require at least 90 to 120 spu this product is the most cost effective. I have been using Drs Best Serrapeptase for at least 5 years and it is very effective for a multitude of inflammation issues including irritable bowel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, sinus congestion, psoriatic arthritis.

https://www.iherb.com/Doctor-s-Best-B...aps/23747?at=0

To receive $5 off your first purchase with iherb enter coupon code BAR967 at the checkout.

For further info on what serrapeptase can do for you visit www.serrapeptase.info

I just went to the serrapeptase site above and they have a price comparison chart which ranks Drs. Best as costly. My calculations come out to 23 cents a pill for the 120,000iu bottle (not 50cents as this chart says) found at www.iherb.com . If you choose to do serrapeptase you would need to take one of these 3x a day for acute and long term chronic conditions. I don't think he's trying to be underhanded on this site, its just that Drs Best products vary in price determined by what on line store you purchase from.

It is not easy to find info on the Web that is not associated with a vendor. That seems typical of complementary medicine, because there is little funding for studies otherwise.

Here is one site that seems to have a large quantity of date. They do have a favored product though. https://www.serrapeptase.org/

Serrapeptase reduces pain and inflammation in three different ways:
  1. Serrapeptase breaks down fibrin, and important protein in the blood that is involved in blood coagulation or clotting.
  2. Serrapeptase thins the fluids associated with inflammation. This allows fast drainage which leads to quicker recovery times after injury or surgery.
  3. And finally, Serrapeptase elliminates pain by blocking the release of Bradykinin in damaged tissue. Bradykin is a protein responsible for triggering a pain response.

Serrapeptase, in clinical terms, is known as serratio peptidase. It is a proteolytic enzyme with the main task of breaking down proteins within the body of the host. This is actually the basic purpose of all proteolytic enzymes (2).
Medicinal Uses of Serrapeptase:
Serrapeptase is basically used to reduce pain and inflammation relating to the following conditions:
  • Fibrocystic breast disease
  • Ear infections
  • Nose infections
  • Throat infections
  • Post surgical edema
  • Carpel tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic airway disease

Serrapeptase dissolves non-living tissues within the body which includes blood clots. It is also capable of reducing the blood level of neutrophils. These two functions of the enzyme are quite helpful in treating diseases related to respiratory disorders. COPD and emphysema are two of the major diseases that can be treated by this enzyme.
In Natural Therapies for Emphysema and COPD, author Robert J. Green stated that neutrophils in the immune system are responsible for fighting infections. However, their excessive accumulation at the areas of inflammation can harm the healthy tissues in those areas. The anti-inflammatory elements in Serrapeptase are therefore quite helpful in relieving inflammation and pain brought on by the accumulation of neutrophils. On the other hand, the mucolytic elements in Serrapeptase are helpful in thinning the sputum which reduces the chances of accumulation of thick mucus.

To that list jfh, for which serrapeptase is known to work, should be added arthritis. It is of huge benefit to arthirits of different causes and I have seen positive results in many cases now, with total remission in some.

I bet it would be most excellent in fibrocystic breast disease combined with Lugols iodine.

I am quite confused about the dosages, I researched earlier threads and jhf has pointed out in this thread (https://www.natmedtalk.com/general-di...ttokinase.html) that taking more than 1 pill of 40,000units may cause bleeding??

As Arrowwind09 just pointed, his/her dosage is 1x120,000units 3x daily?

And also on the doctors best website itself, the product information talks of taking up to 9x 40,000units daily (which would be the same as 120x3)

jfh, is there a reason you thought that taking more than 2x40,000 daily would cause bleeding?

Yes. From experience. I once had hemorrhoid, until a few months ago (operation). I could tell that something had blood thinning capabilities whenever my hemorrhoids would bleed. Now, the only way to tell is when my stool is dark, instead of my normal tan or camel color.

Benefits of Serrapeptase - Also called serratiopeptidase or silk worm enzyme, this substance is a proteolytic (protein-splitting) enzyme widely used in Japan and Europe in clinical therapy. Experts believe that this enzyme has the ability to reduce swelling, thin the blood out (to reduce the risk of blood clots), and decrease the sensation of pain.

I have a small cyst on my leg, I think using serrapeptase would help me, I have been taking 2x 40,000 in the morning and 2x 40,000 before bed both away from food.

I have taken them for about a week and it has definitely affected the cyst in a positive way

I also smoke sometimes, so I'm thinking serrapeptase would help my lungs as well

I think that taking a 120,000 a day in divided dosages generally does not cause bleeding.. but remember, everyone is different, and just like with a drug, dosages need to vary for individuals. This is generally determined by observation, or possibly wieght. If you are a very small person 120,000 might be too much. Then again if you are huge it may not be enough. Generally these high dosages are used for shorter term to get a situation under control then reduce down to a maintenance dosage if it is needed. Often with serrapepetase I have found that a mainenance dosage was not needed as the problem didn't return.
