i took a bite of something the other day and for some reason my jaw jutted out to the side instead of the normal up-down motion.. it hurt a bit on that side.. then i stupidly started obcessing over it and opening my mouth wide and feeling the jaw a lot all day..

next day i woke up and noticed some crackling sounds when opening/closing jaw, my jaw muscles also felt tense..

this was 2 days ago.. im trying to rest my jaw and avoid the obcessive checking/testing of my jaw.. i can eat without pain..

just tonight i started hearing a very faint click sound on that side, and not every time..

dont think its full blown TMJ or anything but I wanna take good care of it now so it doesnt become that.. any advice?

Also now it feels like my lower jaw is pushed forward a bit.. hard to close mouth etc..

I think i just overworked/strained my jaw muscles

Anyone have any advice? its been 4-5 days now and my jaw is still not right.. luckily i dont have pain, and not much clicking sound, but my jaw is really tight. I can to open it very wide.. but I can open it wide enough to eat/talk etc so tahts good.. but its starting to frustrate me.. i feel like I cant smile easily or talk quite the same or eat with the same ease.. what happened!! Do you think this tension will go away? How come it hasnt gone away after a couple days? Ive been applying arnica to the side of my face/jaw and taking a arnica liquid (homeopathic)..

Anyone else dealt with this before?? Im going to a craniosacral therapist on thursday. actaully two different CST specialists lol.. hopefully they can help me..although this happened last week right after I had some craniosacral work done.. dunno if it palyed a role or not..

Anyone got advice? hopefully it will go away over the next week or two.. dunno if I should keep being conservative or if I should attempt to massage / press into my jaw.. dont wana make things worse.

Hi Moxsum, I hope it feels better soon. I have no advice to give, my jaw clicks when I open my mouth wide for many years now, but it doesn't give me any pain and I just live with it, in my case it's very minor.

Hi there..

Thank you.. Yea it seem like jaw issues are incredibly common actually the more I find out about it.. not surprising really considering we use this joint 2,000 times a day. My jaw has been feeling maybe a tiny bit better every day.. but it still feels off like my its hard to close my mouth and have my teeth line up normally, and its also hard for me to open all the way.. I get like half way and my jaw is tight, i can sort of slowly force it to go wider..

Also, if I put ear plugs in or plug my ears I hear a faint clicking on the left side but dont really hear anything without plugs in so its not a huge deal.. however ive worn ear plugs for years and never heard clicking at all.

Hopefully my jaw muscles will relax more soon.. I wonder why they locked up.. I read that, sometimes the muscles will lock up in an area thats injured or unstable or painful.. maybe I tweaked my jaw a bit when I took that bite and my muscles ceased up to protect it...

I also read that tense muscles in the jaw can pull the joint out of alignment and that once the muscles are relaxed/strong/flexible the jaw 'Should' go back into place..

Ill keep everyone updated.. but anyone else have advice/common experience let me know! I know some of you do!! lol my ex gf used to have a bad clicking jaw everytime she ate, and my bro's girl has it too! seems more common in women for some reason.
