Default Ginger May Help Protect Against Alcohol-Induced Liver Damage

Quote:
The current investigation has been conducted to investigate the influence of ginger on hepatic antioxidant enzymes system in ethanol treated rats.

Ethanol significantly decreased the superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase and glutathione content while an increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were estimated in the hepatic tissue.

This effect was reversed by a treatment with 1% dietary ginger for 4 weeks in rats by improved antioxidant status which suggest that treatment of ginger may have protective role against the ethanol induced hepatotoxicity.

Antabuse Information

Antabuse is a popular medicine that is also widely known as Disulfiram. This drug is also chemically known under the name of diethylthiocarbamoyl disulfide. This medicine has proven itself to be capable of heightening the patient’s normal sensitivity to alcohol. Therefore, a patient that is being treated with this medicine could experience severe adverse effects if he or she ingests even a very small amount of alcohol.

Creze,

I don't know much about recovering from alcohol but I do think that a good b vitamin is called for to help your liver repair. Look for Jarrow B complex. Brewers yeast is also good and I put it on my salads. You might also want to consider Standard Process Livaplex

Also a whey protien supplement. Again Jarrow makes a very good product.

For Liver protection, Milk Thistle should also be a good one too.

Now that is interesting. I used to drink very heavily also, several bottles of spirits a week at the lowest point - thankfully I'm past that, but I'm sure that must have done a great deal of damage to my liver etc at a young age. I do eat quite a bit of ginger these days, hopefully its helping repair the damage.

Ginger works because it is antifungal. Alcohol is made with BREWERS YEAST! Yeast is a type of fungus.
