\r\n
\r\nSince the late \'70s, I\'ve already learned about the value of this mineral. Somehow, I don\'t hear much of it being "advertised" as much as the other minerals or nutrients.
\r\n
\r\nNote that selenium and vitamin E work synergistically (effect more than the sum of both), so it would be best to take both.
\r\n
\r\nI\'ve known about selenium\'s observed need in cancer and I used it as a big part of my recommendations which led to my dad\'s recovery from prostate cancer. And being synergistic with vitamin E, I presumed its role in cardiovascular disease as well as in the immune response. What I find new is its role in arthritis (though I\'ve used it for canine hip dysplasia, along with vitamins E and C).

\r\nI got another interesting link. This one is on selenium

\r\nbut you can see the table of contents at the top of the page that this is part of a thesis paper towards a ND degree of Dr. Rossenberg, and that other parts in the thesis can be of some interest.
\r\n

\r\nCould a humble nutrient avert a bird \'flu pandemic?
\r\n
\r\nThat\'s the title of the article found here:
\r\n
\r\nhttps://tinyurl.com/oce7a (Click on the appropriate button at the top to proceed to succeeding pages of the article.)
\r\n
\r\nWhile it deals with the disease in birds, it has a couple of maps showing selenium deficient areas of Europe and North America.
\r\n
\r\nAnd while applied on birds, I see no reason why it could not be applied on mammals.
\r\n
\r\nWe could really be neglecting selenium\'s importance. And since it\'s synergistic with vitamin E, we might be neglecting the full impact of E-selenium combo. So it\'s not only for cancer, but for infections as well. This is to be expected of any nutrient acting on the immune system.
\r\n
\r\n===========================================
\r\nSelenium and vitamin E are synergistic, so it\'s always better to have both. Note the "more powerful" vitamin E, tocotrienol, which we can get from unpolished rice, oats, wheat (germ), rye, barley, coconut oil, and palm oil, among others.

\r\n \r\n Thanks for that Gerry. In fact, we could make a specific topic, and "sticky" it, just for important links, such as these.
\r\nShall we call it "Important links" or is there another , more appropriate title?\r\n

\r\n \r\n This sounds like an excellent idea. Perhaps we could add a general information directory on the forum index? Then as Gerry said this could have various threads containing links to specific topics. The only problem I see is how do you decide what to include?
\r\n
\r\nPersonally I know I have read many links and though wow this is good information. But if I have no immediate need it quickly becomes lost and going back at a latter date and trying to rediscover it can be difficult at best.\r\n

\r\n
\r\nNever an easy answer to that one!
\r\nPerhaps we should group the links under various headings - links relating to nutrition, exercise, cancer, new treatments. Already many decisions to make in just those few words.
\r\nI have PMed Kevin and asked him to create a new sub-forum for this. He is always helpful, so I know something good will appear.\r\n

This sounds like an excellent idea. Perhaps we could add a general information directory on the forum index? Then as Gerry said this could have various threads containing links to specific topics. The only problem I see is how do you decide what to include?
\r\n
\r\nPersonally I know I have read many links and though wow this is good information. But if I have no immediate need it quickly becomes lost and going back at a latter date and trying to rediscover it can be difficult at best.

Can you give us an outline of what you have in mind when you say General Information Index.

\r\n \r\n Hi All,
\r\n
\r\nIf I come across a web page that I might find interesting, heres what Ive been doing. First, I created a directory on the local C: drive which is called HeIs. This is short for Health Issues. Inside this directory, additional sub-directories were created such as AntiAging, Butter, CoQ10, etc. Upon finding an interesting web page, click on File on the menu bar and select Save As. This displays a Save Web Page dialog box. In the Save In: field navigate to the appropriate sub-directory. In the File name: field, enter a file name to change the displayed name. In the Save as type: field, select Web Page, complete (*.htm;*.html). Finally, click on the Save button or press the Enter key. This saves a copy of the web page on the local C: drive. If a new sub-directory needs to be created, this can be done in the Save Web Page dialog. Navigate to the HeIs directory and right click in the list of folders and select New from the first menu and Folder on the second menu. Enter the desired name for the New Folder, open it and save the web page.
\r\n
\r\nTo perform a search, in Windows explorer, right-clicking on the directory HeIs will bring up a menu. Select Search from this menu which should display a Search Results dialog. In the A word or phrase in the file: field, enter a word or phrase which is known to be in a saved web page. For example, entering grape seed extract (without the quotes) will bring up a listing of all the saved web pages which contain this phrase. There should be two listings for each web page. One should be the document and the other a folder that holds graphics. Double clicking on the document should open the saved copy of the web page.
\r\n
\r\nIn my mind, this is much more efficient than trying to perform another web search for a page that I know Ive seen before. Of course, this is not as good as having links listed on the forum. I think having a Links topic is a great idea. Just be sure to include a good discription of the links so that a search can be made.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Can you give us an outline of what you have in mind when you say General Information Index.
\r\nDo you mean changing the names of the sub forums as they are now, or to add another, or ???

\r\n
\r\nThe new links category is what I would consider general information and should follow the same format. Clicking on it would reveal the standard health topics, Nutrition, Dentistry, Vision, etc. Clicking on one of them would then reveal all the links that are related to that topic.
\r\n
\r\nI am thinking that these links should be limited to articles, research papers, test results, etc. rather then how my aunt Hildegard cured her curved spine by bungee cord jumping. While aunt Hildegards cure might be interesting it would be better if it stayed in the general discussion category. On the other hand articles linked to from here need not necessarily carry the AMA, FDA etc. seal of approval.
\r\n
\r\nWhat would be helpful is if each link had a brief sentence or two to describe its contents. Thus if I were to go to a topic on hangnails and one of the links description tells of their removal with the use of a double edged axe, I can quickly determine if I want more information.
\r\n
\r\nThe main problem is how do we determine what links to include? If Xania, Arrowwind were to have the oversight to make this determination I am sure that they would quickly become overwhelmed by having to reading all of the links.
\r\nOn the other hand if everyone is allowed to insert links there is the possibility that many might not have any real value and the good stuff would get lost in the clutter. Sooo what if there was some way that those who read a new link could vote on whether it should be saved, if it gets enough votes it is then copied to the link category. Can Kevin tell us if this possible, is there a simple way of doing this, or something else along that line?\r\n

\r\nConcerning the links, I had wondered if we need a Links Moderator, but the suggestion of everyone voting on whether a link is to be kept or not is perhaps the better one. If anyone wants to volunteer to be a links moderator - - - - I leave the subject open for discussion!\r\n

\r\nAbout the link organization, you may want to have a look at the directory format, here is an example: https://www.nicedir.com/. You start the categories from scratch, you can add any categories/sub-categories. Anyone can suggest a link with a description, then you can review the link and approve/deny it accordingly.
\r\n
\r\nIf you like this format, I can setup the program and add a link on the top of the forum. The URL would look like this: https://xxx.medsictalk.com/ or https://www.medscitalk.com/xxx/
\r\nxxx is the name you pick up, such as "resource", "links", etc.
\r\n
\r\nLet me know if you want me to setup this.\r\n

\r\n \r\n I don\'t know the answer to that yet. It wouldn\'t be practical to rely on one person to make the decision about which links remain and which get discarded. It has to be a forum decision.
\r\nI think we need someone with the mind of a librarian to help us.
\r\nIf we carry on putting links on this thread for now, we can hope that in a few days we shall have a better answer.\r\n

Default Selenium Role and Importance

I'm transferring some links from the other forum where they could be kept as reference here. 8)

https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/selenium.asp

Since the late '70s, I've already learned about the value of this mineral. Somehow, I don't hear much of it being "advertised" as much as the other minerals or nutrients.

Note that selenium and vitamin E work synergistically (effect more than the sum of both), so it would be best to take both.

I've known about selenium's observed need in cancer and I used it as a big part of my recommendations which led to my dad's recovery from prostate cancer. And being synergistic with vitamin E, I presumed its role in cardiovascular disease as well as in the immune response. What I find new is its role in arthritis (though I've used it for canine hip dysplasia, along with vitamins E and C).

I got another interesting link. This one is on selenium

https://www.karlloren.com/biopsy/book/p5.htm#Selenium

but you can see the table of contents at the top of the page that this is part of a thesis paper towards a ND degree of Dr. Rossenberg, and that other parts in the thesis can be of some interest.

Could a humble nutrient avert a bird 'flu pandemic?

That's the title of the article found here:

https://tinyurl.com/oce7a (Click on the appropriate button at the top to proceed to succeeding pages of the article.)

While it deals with the disease in birds, it has a couple of maps showing selenium deficient areas of Europe and North America.

And while applied on birds, I see no reason why it could not be applied on mammals.

We could really be neglecting selenium's importance. And since it's synergistic with vitamin E, we might be neglecting the full impact of E-selenium combo. So it's not only for cancer, but for infections as well. This is to be expected of any nutrient acting on the immune system.

===========================================
Selenium and vitamin E are synergistic, so it's always better to have both. Note the "more powerful" vitamin E, tocotrienol, which we can get from unpolished rice, oats, wheat (germ), rye, barley, coconut oil, and palm oil, among others.

Just want to keep the references around. It's just getting buried in the other forum.
