Why do MS patients consistently show low vitamin D levels, in keeping with the darkness of the cold and/or very cloudy places they grew up in, and/or live in now in much higher numbers? Do only people who live in the north use aluminum pots and deodorants? I think those of us in the tropical areas use more deodorant...we certainly need it!

\r\nI just don\'t see this research panning out over time....it doesn\'t make sense to me, given the strong demographic representation of MS cases in certain areas. Previous research showing aluminum in brains of AZD patients turned out to be contaminated.....the instruments used to collect tissue samples were made of aluminum. When repeated without aluminum instruments, no such relationship was found. There may be new research I am not aware of however.
\r\n
\r\nWhat does make sense is that at least some MS is caused by some strain of Borrelia, a pathogen with the exact same demographics as MS.
\r\nThe only research I know of on this was one study which showed that Borrelia was present in 35% of MS patients tested. The same paper reported autopsies on 100 Alzheimer\'s patients, all of whom had Borrelia present in their brain tissues. This does not prove causation, but it is curious, esp. since the AZD epidemic started at the same time as the Borrelia epidemic.
\r\n
\r\nLike this study, it would need to be replicated to be taken seriously.
\r\nMeanwhile, I think supplemental vitamin D is the most important thing MS patients can do in winter, and in summer they should get as much mid-day sun as they can take, without sunscreen, but without burning.

Could it be that in some people a certain type of inflammatory response in certain kind of tissues might hold aluminum? What was of most interest to me in the above article was the information about the test for aluminum and the reported treatment of BioSil, two ideas I had not heard of before.

\r\nI might guess that the causes of Alzheimer\'s is not single but that multiple factors might be involved. I am quite drawn to the theories that there is a microbe involved, especially for MS as there are some reports of improvement for some people using colloidal silver or Rife treatments.

\r\nAlzheimer\'s, in most cases of diagnosis, actually fails to have a definitive diagnostic procedure for individuals. Dementia can be caused by a number of factors and the old term, and the generally no longer used diagnostic term, Organic Brain Syndrome use to cover a whole host of dementia problems. Autopsy is the only procedure that allows for a firmly definitive diagnosis that I am aware of for Alzheimer\'s.

Ever since diseases and approved treatments have been standardized by the ICD code system every condition must have a specific name and a routine or standardized treatment. This is one reason new diseases keep getting invented.

\r\n You are certainly right about the ICD coding! My holistic doctor joked with me that the reason adrenal fatigue no longer gets taught in medical school is because it does not have an ICD code.
\r\n You may be right about the AZD too. I am certainly no expert, but have watched my MIL descend into dementia, despite doing everything the experts suggest to fend it off. It can\'t be amalgam poisoning in her case either, since she had lost all of her teeth by the time she was thirty.
\r\n I do think MS cannot have aluminum as it\'s direct cause because of the demographics of it\'s being heavily represented in cold, cloudy places, and pretty much nonexistant in those who spent their first fifteeen years of life in the tropics.
\r\n I do know a lot about borrelia, having been infected with it myself for over twenty years now, and having been misdiagnosed with MS for four years prior to that, so I tend to see borrelia everywhere.

\r\nI make my own CS, too. For any kind of infection I would want a more or less constant presence of CS in the body, so I would use 20 - 30 mls every 2 hours or so. As it is not a pharmaceutical, precision of dosage and timing is not critical.\r\n

For the past 60yrs the association between low vitamin D status and MS incidence and prognosis has regularly appeared in the published research. Nothing will be done to correct vitamin D deficiency either in people with MS or indeed in the general public basically because there is a lot more money to be made treating the condition than preventing it. We all know human skin creates 10,000#20,000iu given full body sun exposure but health professionals will try to keep D3 supplementation levels below the effective amount (5000iu/daily) for as long as they are allowed to get away with it.
\r\nVitamin D is anti inflammatory AND reduces the number of MMP9\'s that actually cause the damage to the mylene sheath. Low vitamin D status is also associated with the poor cognitive function that becomes a feature of the development of both MS and Alzheimer\'s.
\r\n
\r\nDirest MS org has a list of recommended supplements here from which you can see Vitamin D, omega 3 and magnesium (all anti inflammatory) feature in effective amounts. Similar suggestions would also help those with Alzheimer\'s or wishing to prevent such a diagnosis.\r\n

Vitamin D3 and Melatonin both have antibiotic actions. We should at the very least ensure we restore and maintain the basic levels of these natural antibiotics that human DNA evolved to function best with and if we want to obtain vitamin D naturally from sun exposure we first have to restore the natural level of omega 3 to protect the skin from UV damage. We also have to recognise that people with MS and AD generally have deposits of iron in the brain that is adding oxidative damage. both vitamin D and melatonin will help detoxify the brain, and it\'s not a bad idea for all women to be blood donors post menopause and men somewhat younger. (it\'s the iron that\'s released from blood following INFLAMMATION from UV damage that initiates the skin cancer process. Having sufficient melatonin/vitamin d/curcumin/resveratrol available will also help.

I\'m not convinced that MS is curable.

\nI think the remission that some CCSVI treatments have provided is probably temporary (though much to be welcomed by those fortunate few) as it\'s only addressing the symptom but not the cause of blocked veins. Stenting arteries is only a temporary measure for many, The approach Dr Davis uses at Track your Plaque is solving the problem that causes the blockages. Those with MS/AD caused by poor blood flow through brain (and consequent build up of iron) need to understand what is causing the poor blood flow (hence links to Uprightdoctor) and work on strategies to improve that scenario.

\nI think MS could be prevented and I think the progression of the condition may be slowed and I\'m sure that most people with MS would have greater muscle strength, less chronic pain and better cognitive function when Vitamin D status is improved so that they have a stored reserve of D3.
\nBefore I learn\'t about the late effects of polio I was attributing my symptoms to being potentially MS as many of the symptoms of MS apply equally to PPS, so I\'ve been following the topic for many years. I don\'t think anyone who has had polio expects ever to be cured of the condition or cured of the late effects, I think the best we can hope for is to prevent further deterioration as best we can while doing our utmost to be as fit as our damaged bodies allow.
\nWe know sufficient about the role of vitamin D for chronic pain not to suffer unnecessary pain.

\r\n \r\n Well you present a case for MS being caused by virus, where I suggest that Lyme is involved. It could be one or the other, it could be both, considering that almost 90 percent of the population carries herpes simplex, or the chicken pox virus or both.

\nAlthough there is much to be said about getting and keeping strong in the defense systems, I think that once the disease has hit and is manefesting symptoms, aside from protocols you mention on your blog, one must directly attack the pathogen. MMS or colloidal silver and enzymes is proving to be able to do it for many people.\r\n

\nDoes the immune system dysfunction cause viruses like Herpes Symplex which are latent in most people to become active in MS, or does a virus or pathogen cause the immune system dysfunction?

\nThis is the question most needing an answer. Personally, I\'m in the terrain camp (can\'t get around that bad ole mercury and other toxins and vitamin deficiencies and they keep bandying about virus after virus with no answer-' + '-it should be easier to indentify a pathogen unless there\'s a cover-up, but still...) but I\'ll be glad to change camps if only they would find the answer!

\nOnce you have these diseases there\'s usually no cure so prevention is key and so if you\'re healthy-' + '-' + '-focus on terrain, i.e., keeping your body healthy, which includes avoiding stress.\r\n

Major Breakthrough in Multiple Sclerosis Research

What if I told you that the cause of many multiple
sclerosis cases is the same culprit that�s implicated
in Alzheimer�s disease? Since both are brain diseases,
it might not surprise you. But it might surprise you
to find out that we�re all susceptible to it.

For years, alternative doctors have suspected toxic
metals as a cause of MS. Until now, we�ve primarily
focused on mercury and iron as the primary suspects.
Now we need to broaden our horizons. If you have MS,
new research suggests aluminum might be the culprit!

Keele University researchers in England have found
very high levels of aluminum in the urine of MS
patients. The levels were particularly high in
the relapsing-remitting form of MS. The researchers
also found lower levels off silicon excreted by MS
patients. Silicon is a necessary mineral. It�s
aluminum�s natural antagonist in your body.

The implications of this study are tremendous. It
indicates that MS could have a previously unrecognized
environmental factor.

And it also means there�s a simple treatment for it.

If you have MS (or any brain illness), I recommend you
take this article to your alternative doctor. He can
give you a challenge test for aluminum. A good test is
to receive an injection of the aluminum-binding drug
deferroxamine (500 mg). You then collect your urine
for 24 hours to measure for aluminum. The same drug
is also an excellent chelator of iron.

You also can remove aluminum with specific chelating
agents. Silicon, which is very safe, is one of the
best nutrients for doing so. My favorite brand is
BioSil (orthosilicic acid). It�s available in most
health food stores and on the Internet. Shop for the
best price. I recommend you take six to 20 drops in
half a cup of water per day.

There�s no reason to have aluminum in your body. It
has no known role and we know it�s toxic. Its presence
in flu vaccines is associated with a heightened risk
of dementia and Alzheimer�s! And now we know the metal
plays a role in MS.
