Default Maple syrup reduces cancer, diabetes risk

I've heard of combining maple syrup with bicarbonate of soda for treating cancer before, but this is new.

Maple syrup reduces cancer, diabetes risk
United Press International

Maple syrup can substantially slow the growth of cancerous cells in several cancers and help reduce the risk of diabetes, U.S. researchers found. Navindra Seeram of the University of Rhode Island found 13 new antioxidant compounds that were not known to exist in syrup until now. Several of these antioxidants newly identified in maple syrup are reported to have anti-cancer, anti-bacterial and anti-diabetic properties. Maple syrup contains substantial quantities of abscisic acid, a phytohormone known to stimulate insulin release through pancreatic cells and to increase sensitivity of fat cells to insulin, which makes it a potent weapon against metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Seeram presented his findings on Canadian maple syrup at the American Chemical Society annual meeting in San Francisco. A second study by researchers at the Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi suggests maple syrup can substantially slow the growth of cancerous cells in the prostate and lungs and to a lesser extent in the breast, colon and brain more effectively than blueberries, broccoli, tomatoes and carrots. The study is published in the Journal of Medicinal Food.

Question

Somehow I find it hard to believe that Maple Syrup is good for Diabetics.
I'd have to see a lot more tests/trials done on this one.

Well i have heard that using grade a maple syrup in the lemonade diet/detox program does wonders... I can see it to an extent... But Im still thinking everything in moderation!!!
I wonder with all the badmouthing that so many folks are talking about high fructose corn syrup, if they are building this up to be the new healthy replacement for the hfcs... But then the food processors get their hands on it, and do all their chemical magic and adding junk and killing it with heat.... it will be just as bad as hfcs

Maple syrup is seriously pricey. It will never be used as a substitute for other sweetners. Also, I remember in the 70s Mrs Butterworths. It had some maple syrup in it and a lot ofsugarand 4 percent butter. Then it had no maple syrup and 2 percent butter. Now it is flavored high fructose corn syrup. Also aunt jemima pancake mix use to be made with UNBLEACHED white flour and NON ALUMINUM raising agents. Now it is bleached and has aluminum raising agents. The decline of food quality in the US!

And so does the Master's Cleanse. There are a few sites devoted to it as well as a forum.

Mrs Butterworths is not maple syryp. It is c..p.

We are actually shopping for magle sugar trees this week.

I would have less trouble with believing all the wonderful things about maple that this study talks about if it hadn't been carried out in Quebec, which is the capitol of the maple syrup industry, and if it hadn't been paid for by the largest company who sell the stuff.

liverock,
Vermont has also been well known for quality maple syrup for many years. In the catalog for the Vermont country store it usually states that the state of Vermont is very careful that maple syrup marked as being from that state must be graded and marked as far as the qualiy before it can be sold.

The remedy I read about for cancer cooked the syrup down till about 1/2 to 1/3 it's volume and added bicarbonate of soda to make a thick paste, after the syrup cooled. . They took 1 to 3 tsp. a day. It said alternately you could use mollasses without cooking with the same affect.
