Question

Surely mandalasarah is talking about Tincture of Iodine which is used
for the patch test mentioned and NOT meant for ingesting orally?
While minute amounts of Iodine Tincture may be added to large amounts
of water for purifying purposes, this isn't the same thing as taking daily
Iodine supplementation in the form of Lugols, Iosol or Iodoral.

BTW, anyone taking an Iodine supplement is advised to Not take it at night
before bedtime as it might hinder sleep. Also, I think I've read where it Should
be taken 30 minutes Before any food is eaten.

Please correct me if this info is wrong.

This is a rather simple question to what is a rather spirited, informed and important thread. "The lack of Iodine is the single most important issue happening these days in healthcare". Agreed, along with Vitamin D deficiency.

Oh .......... my question. JFH, I missed the article reference. Is it Dr. Abrahams or the biomedical research crew at the UCLA medical school?

Jay, I normally do refer to Dr. Abraham a lot, when referring to iodine for medicinal use. He and Drs. Flechas and Brownstein seem to have done the most clinical work, which included 100s of patients. However, I was responding to a post of Arrowwind when she linked to https://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller20.html That would be Dr. Donald Miller.

My iodine source is through organic kelp granules from Maine. It's labeled Sea Seasonings made by Maine Coast Sea Vegetables Inc.

Ingredients: Organic raw kelp

Serving size 1/4 tsp = 2260% value based on a 2000 calorie diet.

I'll type out the label tomorrow as it contains an interesting read.

It's hard to believe that any seafood, vegetable or critter, is organic anymore. We've polluted the ocean quite sufficiently. From huge plastic islands, oil spills, and waste run-offs, there's not much left that could be considered organic.

Iodine is an element, like zinc and magnesium. It is already inorganic. I understand that you mean that you'd prefer your iodine from an organic source and not to use the simple element in isolation.

Now that this thread has been brought back to my attention I went through some of the links and I pulled this off a link just for our record. I think there is a big difference in treating iodine deficiency diseases and diseases in general compared to just keeping on an even keel, making sure your diet provides enough iodine. If you supplement with kelp or what ever for iodine and you have no deficiency diseases, thyroid is good, I would assume that things are going well.

Aside from deficiency, Iodine in the form of Lugols can treat some very serious disease. This is an example of a very serious disease that has record of being cured with iodine. I have treated these wounds before in hospital. The patient ALWAYS dies with conventional treatment.

Regarding KI and other iodine salts (like sodium iodide), the venerated 11th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, published in 1911, states, "Their pharmacological action is as obscure as their effects in certain diseased conditions are consistently brilliant. Our ignorance of their mode of action is cloaked by the term deobstruent, which implies that they possess the power of driving out impurities from the blood and tissues. Most notably is this the case with the poisonous products of syphilis. In its tertiary stage and also earlier this disease yields in the most rapid and unmistakable fashion to iodides, so much so that the administration of these salts is at present the best means of determining whether, for instance, a cranial tumor be syphilitic or not."

pyoderma gangrenosum

This 19th and early 20th century medicine continues to be used in gram amounts in the 21st century by dermatologists. They treat inflammatory dermatoses, like nodular vasculitis and pyoderma gangrenosum (shown here), with SSKI, beginning with an iodine dose of 900 mg a day, followed by weekly increases up to 6 grams a day as tolerated. Fungal eruptions, like sporotrichosis, are treated initially in gram amounts with great success. These lesions can disappear within two weeks after treatment with iodine.
For many years physicians used potassium iodide in doses starting at 1.5 to 3 gm and up to more than 10 grams a day, on and off, to treat bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with good results and surprisingly few side effects.

Yep, you're right, our environment is in a sad shape. Doesn't have to keep going in that direction though.. we're supposed to be an intelligent species and can reverse horrible problems if we all pitch in and make a stand.

I did look around for quite awhile before choosing a brand. Here's their website, they have a good video and by clicking on 'the harvest' you can see what measures they take prior to and during their harvest.

Nice variety. I'm glad they have recipes. I normally go for the powder and take it as a supplement for balancing the endocrine system. I think I'll try some of the recipes.
