Default Coffee/Caffeine

Don't let some "good" reports on coffee fool you. The bad far outweighs the good.

Tea is much better for your health, especially white and red tea, since they don't contain any caffeine. They also hydrate rather than dehydrate, and they help the body pH to become alkaline rather than acidic. The pH of coffee is very low, between 2 and 4.

I think with all the contradicting findings out there I'm going to take the "Everything in Moderations" point of view with this one.

"Boiled coffee beans also contain significant amounts of the two diterpenes (a class of compounds with four isoprene units), cafestol and kahweol. Some studies have associated these compounds with increased levels of LDL (the "bad" cholesterol) and total cholesterol. Filtered coffee, on the other hand, contains very low levels of cafestol and kahweol because they are mostly removed by the paper filter during brewing. Indeed, filtered coffee consumption does not appear to elevate serum cholesterol concentrations."

I've been using a French press for my coffee or a gold filter for my maker; when using the maker. I guess I should switch to paper. Darn. However, for the year without coffee, my LDL was still slightly elavated. Need more exercise I guess.

Coffee seems as controversial as eggs. Yes. No. Yes. No. ...
Well I think it's pretty clear now that cholesterol has nothing bad about it per se. They are quietly converting to inflammation instead of cholesterol since low cholesterol people have just as many heart attacks as high. CRP is now recommended to test for inflammation. If high you need to change your diet and get exercise and possibly antiinflammatories. Maybe the higher LDL helps mental acuity.
