Default Do You Have to Refrigerate Almond Butter?

The no stir almond butter I bought at wal-mart says refrigerate after opening. Do you have to refrigerate most almond butter?

It's recommended that if you're going to use it within a week's time, then it can just be kept in a cool, dark place. Longer than a week, it should be refrigerated to keep the natural beneficial oils from going rancid. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to three months. It can be stored in the freezer for 4-6 months, if you're planning to save it for future use.

Thanks for the info. So, does peanut oil keep alot longer than almond oil? Since peanut butter can be kept out of the fridge for a long while.

I had a friend long ago that used peanut butter in petri dishes to cultivate bacteria for his college projects. He said that was his best discovered media. I never keep my peanut butter out of the refrigerator. I seldom use other "butters", as I prefer the whole nut.
