Default Product Quality Update - Resveratrol

Quote:
ConsumerLab.com, a White Plains, N.Y.-based organization that performs independent tests of health and nutrition products, tested 13 resveratrol products and found they delivered the expected dose, with two exceptions.

Life Extension Resveratrol Caps are supposed to contain 20 milligrams of resveratrol per capsule but have about 5 milligrams, the report says.

Resvert, distributed by SupplementSpot (formerly known as Young Again Nutrients), had only 58% of its promised 25 milligrams of resveratrol per capsule, the researchers say.

...

One of the supplement makers replied that the company will take corrective action if it is able to replicate ConsumerLab's finding. John Acord, SupplementSpot manager, says Resvert will be tested by an independent laboratory. The report "certainly is of great concern to me," Acord says.

Life Extension could not be reached for comment.

If resveratrol is in wine, I'd rather drink wine. But I remember someone saying that it could start disappearing once the bottle is opened.

If it's in the wine, is it also in the grape? I enjoy eating grapes, too.

Heck, if you like eating things ... you can eat the vine as well ... another good source of resveratrol.

BTW, there are ways to preserve the resveratrol in wine ... using a special pump which removes the majority of the oxygen from the empty space in the bottle helps.

Boxed bag wines minimize contact with air.

Iggy,

I suspect that you're right about that. But, I prefer having my wine rest in a glass house rather than a plastic one. I'm concerned that certain chemicals in the plastic might leech into the vino.

Resveratrol is in the skin and seed of the grape. It is also in red wine, but is in a diluted form. The most concentrated form would be capsule or powder, in which the fiber, moisture, and most of the sugar is removed, leaving only the phytonutrients behind.

Health = nutrients x potency.

Let me think like God.

Fiber (skin) - to contain the substance
Moisture - to keep it chewable, unless we enjoy chewing on leather
Sugar - to get us to eat it and enjoy it as well, what else?

Health = nutrients x potency.
This is a really interesting comment PBD, and I agree and disagree at the same time. If we have a healthy diet and plenty of exercise we should not need the potency, but if we don't, or if we are ill, then we need to potency. The potency should not be needed if we are well.

We live in a polluted world. Our air quality is bad and water is contaminated with toxic poisons. Farmland is not very fertile due to years of chemical fertilizers, pesticides,etc.
The point is that we can't be healthy, and we need all the help we can get, through supplements and vitamins. We need these to continually detoxify these poisons from our bodies, so they don't overwhelm our immune systems. Once the immune system is depleted, disease is inevitable.

I agree, Gerry. I think all the elements are there for a reason. Just because we don't know what all the reasons are for the way it is put together doesn't mean there aren't reasons.

and.. one more "element" that I believe is in real food. the "energy", the "life force"

When feasible, yes, but try eating raw beans, raw potatoes, and raw grains.

We live in a polluted world
PBD, not everyone, everywhere lives in a poluted world,and there is the problem. Americans seem to think that if its happening in America its happening everywhere, and thats just not true.
Iggy, yes when practicle, and where I live its very practicle. Obviously I dont eat raw potatoes, but there is plenty of good organic food aroud here.
