Default Coconut Oil Brands

Usually I buy Nutiva brand from iherb (basically 60% of the price of what it costs at whole foods). I was at a health food store a couple weeks ago in akron and purchased an organic, expeller pressed brand called tree of life. The Nutiva has a very pleasent mild coconut smell. the tree of life brand has no smell. Why is this?

My Nature's Way EVCO has a very pleasant coconut odor, I like Nutiva too. It seems that some companies, purposely process their coconut oil to remove the odor. Here's a site that reviews several brands, and they also say the tree of life has no smell.

Thanks for that website on Coconut Oils, Saved! I had no idea there were so many.
I've used only Tropical Traditions & actually enjoy the smell & mild coconut flavor.
My present supply is beginning to run low so I may try one of those on the list. Thanks again.

Me too. I enjoy tropical traditions when I can afford it plus shipping, or when they have a sale. Otherwise, Spectrum is so convenient. Only sales tax, and at my local grocer.

Vitamin Shoppe is alot cheaper than Spectrum brand. And it looks fresher (just my opinion).

Spectrum unrefined (red label) was $15 at Krogers.....

Vitamin Shoppe brand seems exactly like the Nutiva brand they sell....just repackaged.....for 8.99!

same size....actually...the spectrum is 14 oz....the vitamin shoppe brand is 15 oz...

I couldn't agree with you more! The only thing I get a deal on at Kroger is their gas because I use a friend's plus card and get $0.10 off per gallon. Sometimes I have to call her and find out when she is grocery shopping next so I can get the discount!

I discovered years ago that health foods which I thought were way overpriced at my local vitamin store (and are compared to online sources), were really reasonable compared to Krogers prices.

I recently bought some Alba jasmine & vitamin E moisture cream from the vitamin store for $14.25 (3oz.), and at the nearby Walgreens drug store it was $18.99.
