Default Propranolol for Anxiety - any advice

Hello, I have been to the doctors today as I was having really discomfort in my chest which was going up into my throat and also in my left arm. I was scared as I thought I was having a heart attack. My doctor said due to the stress I have suffered over the last few months, I had an anxiety attack. He has prescribed me some beta blockers called Propranolol 80mg slow release. Has anyone took this medication, and how have you found it. I have read that it can reduce your metabolism and cause weight gain. Has anyone been taking this medication noticed this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience with this drug, I try to stay away from all prescription meds, most of them have very negative side-effects, and don't really help the body heal to cure itself.

I recommend that you take more natural supplements to help your anxiety. Omega 3 fish oil, B-complex vitamins, magnesium, valerian root, chamomile, skullcap, are just some choices that can help.

It is a beta blocker and in lower dosages, used for anxiety because it stops the heart from racing.

I would chuck that stuff and try both of these together. Disregard what the label says its for. Homeopathics work more broadly with these types of remedies.

Take each one 2 to 3 times a day or when you feel an attack coming on. Repeat during an attack up to three times if needed 15 to 20 minutes apart.

If you do that, you'll totally confuse your body! not to mention your mind. Homeopathy is not to be used like allopathy. Homeopathy properly used is about finding the ONE remedy best suited to the individual to help them back into a sate of balance. If you want Homeopathy, go see a decent Homeopath who uses 5th and 6th edition.

If you want to throw various remedies at yourself, do it safely and use Flower Essences.

Are you sure the doctor is right and it's stress? If so, plenty natural things can help - safely.

Confused body, eh?

You don't know what a confused body is until you've take propranolol for a while.

What is more confusing is the price classical homeoapths charge.
and just try getting someone on a forum like this to go.

I am a trained homeopath.. The compound low potency remedies are very effective and used by many alternative doctors now and I have managed to CURE a number of conditions with them. Of course a classical consult with a good homeopath is worth its weight in gold and thats just what they charge and after 3 or 4 visits you might get cured if you have the trust to stick with it as you lay your money on the table.

That being said I have laid plenty of money on the homeopaths table and have been very pleased to do so becasue I understand the workings of it.... but most people here do not and will not educate themselves nor are they willing to pay so much, nor do they have ready access to a classical homeoapth.

I should also mention that if you, Honey1962 are in peri-menapause or menapausal then anxiety is a common symptom of these changes. Hormones need regulation. ... there could be also and iodine deficiency, cortosol hormone problems, estrogen problems. When I started iodine supplementation all my mini anxiety attacks and heart palpatations went away at the age of 54. Although hormones may have been part of my issue, my doc thought so, it is imperative to nourish with any nutrients that you may be deficient in first...

Default Anxiety/Panic Attacks

I used to suffer from anxiety or panic attacks and had gone to the hospital or doctor more than a few times, thinking I was having a heart attack. Doctor put me on generic Zoloft and the anxiety went away. Well, after being on that for several years, I noticed that I was never really happy about anything or never really sad about anything. I never felt euphoric and I never cried about anything, even the death of my Grandfather. The doctor just said something like "well that happens sometimes" and said I could stop the Zoloft if I wanted to. The anxiety attacks came back when my life got stressful. Finally, I found a book called The UltraMind Solution <link removed> and read it. Of course, the author wants to sell you the supplements he has compounded, but I found out what was in them and went to my local health food store and bought what I needed to replicate the good doctor's product. I have been off Zoloft for several months now and, in spite of a lot of stress in my life at the moment, have not had a single anxiety attack in all that time. I feel so much better overall, too.

Oh, I am new to this forum and was just poking around looking at topics and found this one that struck a chord with me. I am sure I will find many more.

I had a massage client recently who's spouse had died just 2 or 3 months previously which I did not know about when I was working on her...

Energetically I could feel all the repressed sadness in her.. it was like a volcano that was just under the surface.. I told her I thought she needed to cry and cry a lot.. thats when she told me that her partner had died and because she was crying so much they put her on an antidepressant and she stopped crying.... after only about 4 weeks of greiving!

I told her that she really needed to cry and that sometimes people cry daily for a year or more... that that doctor had no business attempting to repress her sadness and judging it as abnormal or something fixable.

Expression of emotion is essential for greiving and re-establishing balance after such huge life changing events. You express emotion for as long as it takes, as much as it takes... till you restore order and peace within yourself.... she said she would consider what I said... I don't know if she stopped the antidepressant but I think she might as she said she felt dead inside and she was use to feeling vibrant.

It is better to feel sadness than to feel nothing at all... at least we are feeling alive... and in time the sadness works its way out and one becomes balanced again.. this is natural and normal proscess and no one has the right or the insight to determine how long it should take.

There could be a magnesium deficiency as well. Use in conjunction with calcium & Vit D for best results.
Use a 2:1 ratio ~ such as; 500 mg of calcium and 250 mg of magnesium
