    Obituary Part 3

As he worked on the articles, he began gathering more and more information, and he finally decided he had enough for a book.

It covers everything from the perils of adding fluoride to water to less common debates such as why too much unfermented soy foods such as tofu can lead to an unhealthy diet.

He was very aware of good food. And he always was interested in food health, Sharon Barbee said. It became his passion.

Despite his passion, his friends and family said he epitomized a calm.

He knew how to relax, Sharon Barbee said.

    Obituary Part 2

He met wife Sharon Barbee in 1974 through a Healdsburg volleyball league. He invited her and others to his house, where he had prepared an entire meal from scratch crepes, stuffed mushrooms and homemade ice cream.

He was quite a cook, Sharon Barbee said.

Barbee lived life with a calm intensity, learning one skill after the next. He was a lifelong learner. He was also a precocious athlete and academic.

In high school, Barbee was class president, a star basketball and baseball player, and he excelled in class.

He was soft-spoken, unpretentious, fair, and most important, true to his inner self, said John Hagens, a high-school teammate of Barbee.

Barbee frequently wrote to the editorial pages of newspapers. In the 1990s, he decided to begin research on a series of stories about health and nutrition he hoped to get published in newspapers.

Mike Barbee passed away May 18, 2009 after a heroic battle with prostate cancer. Although he did not visit us much here towards the end many of us held him in our thoughts and prayer throughout. You can read about him and his journey that he shared with us on this thread.

Hi Mike - sorry to hear of your diagnosis - you may wish to look up the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil protocol. Discovered by a woman who was nominated several times for the Nobel I understand.
