Question Plantar fasciitis?

I just found out last night that my daughter has been in severe pain
for weeks now with plantar fasciitis on the heel of one foot to the
point where she can barely walk.
Does anyone know how this gets started and what one can do about it?

Had it 7 yrs ago. Went to the foot doctor who gave me 2 ultrasound treatments. Not to push allopathic medicine, but, since it is really bad in the mornings and lightens up after that, give her a 200 mg advil with dinner and another one before bed with a snack.

Question

Thanks Saved1986. I gave Karen this information yesterday.
What type of Doctor did you see who gave you the ultra sound
treatments? Also discovered that the daughter of a friend of mine
is having the same problem and is presently treating it only by wearing
extremely expensive shoes, she would like to know too.

This problem is caused by a tear in the fastitis of the heel, a tendon like tissue.

When you go to sleep at night the foot drops down and the tendon shortens, while in this position it starts to heal. When you get up in the morning and start to walk the healing in a shortened position tears again, hence pain. The pain ususaly goes away after a couple of hours.

The cure is to tape the foot so that it will not drop at night and the tendon cannot shorten. There are also boots designed for this. Both my husband and I have had it. He got his by pushing on a shovel with his foot in a thin shoe. Mine came from sliding my foot off of a circular foot rail on an extra high chair. My slip on shoe came off and the heel stretched on the metal bar. His cured in about 2 months with taping done by a podiatrist. They do an xray to make sure it is not an other problem that feels similar.

Mine cured in about 1 year. The taping did not help. Gentle exercise when I got up in the morning was the best. Tried serrapeptase but it didn't help. Just time and exercise.

Thanks Arrow, not good news for either Karen or Sherry, but I'll pass
it along.

I answered the other thread (podiatrist). When I had it, it was extremely painful on waking (when I first stepped out of bed) and after a few minutes it lightened up. 2 or 3 ultrasound treatments fixed it up. (aalong with a few days of advil)

My daughter was in so much pain one day this week that she
went to the "Good Feet Store" and bought some special shoes
with special inserts - $400.00 - which she now wears daily. She
says they have helped alot. Her pain is/was not only when she first
got out of bed in the morning but also everytime she got up from
sitting at her desk at work.
Thanks everyone for your comments/advice.

Glad your daughter's Plantar Fasciitis is feeling better. I was on my feet all day on cement floors at work, and mine got better with short (1 minute), simple morning massage with Magnesium Oil. Every once in awhile, when I overdo with walking, etc., I'll remember I even I have it.

Exclamation

Besides the inserts in her special shoes, she also uses ice on her feet
in the evening as well as doing special exercises. It basically depends
on how much she's on her feet which some days is considerable.
Thanks for the info on Mag Oil.

Inserts? Maybe she just needs orthodics. You can go to the podiatrist and get them (helps if you have insurance 400 bucks), if not, you can get them on the net. They send you 2 boxes with a foam you step into into with each foot and send the boxes back. You then get the custom orthodics (under 100$)
