Default Requiring office visit for Adderall prescription

My psychiatrist is requiring an office visit every month to write my monthly prescription for adderall. I understood monitoring the mgs for the first couple of months, but now it feels that he is just doing this for the enormous copay. He doesn't check my blood pressure or any other diagnostic type of testing. He only asks me if everything is okay and writes the prescription. My general physician isn't liscensed to write this script. Is it legal for a doctor to require a visit for a script needed on a monthly basis?
