Default Linking Issue

Thought I would mention this, but I just tried to post a link to a site about Superfoods, and had to leave the conventional VB tags in.

When I tried to use the tag sequence, that allows a link to be displayed with words like "click here", the link went in badly after posting, and one or two unwanted tags were automatically added.

Hopefully this helps those concerned to iron out any issues.

Take care

Boss, it is hard to tell what happened without seeing the link.

if you post the link, and then highlight it, and click the # above, it will display what you put in your post without processing it. that way, we can see what the problem is.

Regular link.

Amended link.

Copied of the VB code help page.

These work for some reason, and yet my "amended link" I posted earlier, exactly matches the syntax, for the second of the copied links, but screwed up.

I don't understand how that second type of link code, works on a help page, works when copied here, but doesn't work if typed out manually with other links in it?

This is weird.

Hopefully this helps to explain.

They all seemed to have worked now. So maybe it was a slight glitch in the system earlier

Although the preview function was showing up some crazy HTML code, just now.

Additional. Having just tried to reconfigure that link I posted earlier, the same problem exists, the Click Here[/url] part stays tagged on the end of the link, and the click here bit doesn't work. The first tag before the lnk is not shown.

I conclude it may be the format of the pasted link perhaps. It is an shtml ending, maybe that is what caused the glitch.

The link is no longer messed up, I amended that link earlier, and posted the HTML without tags, which sorted the problem, but it means I couldn't use tags to make the link more consice.

The link is in the Nutrition section of the site, with the word Superfoods in the title.

As I say possibly the shtml ending caused the glitch, when I tried to alter the syntax and add tags.

well, I guess it will remain a mystery. no way to tell what was wrong without seeing what you coded.

next time, leave it as is, and then ask about it in another post. that way, the source code can be looked at to see what is causing the problem.

Boss, typing the code directly is not preferred, please try another way:

1. Type the text you want to link in the post.
2. Select the text with your mouse.
3. Click the button , paste your URL.

By this way, misspelling can be avoided. It applies to other bb code as well. Most format code can be added with the buttons above the edit box. Always select the text first, and then press the button to see what happens.

Kevin, you know about the code format button, right? It is nice for debugging problems like this.

Yes, I can look into it if it can be reproduced. But I'm pretty sure it's a misspelling, the wrong format should have been introduced before he was trying to fix the 2nd error.

ST: the video code can be used in signature, although it's a bit hilarious if there are more than one of your signatures on one page.
