Default Signature Usage

Signature spam becomes popular on forums, to prevent it, members with less than 20 posts are not allowed to use signatures.

There are more and more new members who recommend 'great' sites in their first posts, we will delete these kind of posts and ban the members without hesitation.

So do we have a page telling new members this rule?

This post.

I don't think new members care about the signatures.

I agree. Wherever we find spam it should be deleted.

Added to FAQ.

Let me explain this in more details, many spammers use this way to promote websites on forums: they register a account and make a couple of legitimate posts with signature links, then register more accounts to promote other sites.

I have to stop them in the first place, otherwise, very soon, this forum will be flooded with these kind of members.

A real member doesn't care about the signature, at least for the beginning. But spammers will stop because they have to create 20 posts, which is too much trouble for them.

Kevin, have you deleted any of these so far? I saw two or three in the past week or so, but left them alone as they seemed harmless, if pointless!! I don't recall who they were, but I can go and look if necessary?

Should be very few, no need to delete. Thanks!

Oh good! And here I thought I had a brain dump, and could not find where to add a signature!

Hello everyone... I am brand new... I haven't even formally introduced myself yet! I have experience on several Internet forums (I help out on one), and that is why I was searching for information on how to set my siggy.

Anyhow... now I understand why I can not. It wasn't just me after all!!

Okay... I'll leave now, and go introduce myself!

Welcome to NMT, SilverRose!

Had to do that to prevent spam trolls, sorry for any inconvenience.

Oh, no-no, not at all. That is perfectly understandable, of course! I was just glad to know it wasn't me!

And thank you... and I did post on the Introductions forum and introduced myself to to everyone!

Nickcole - the reason for having the 20 posts rule is for just that reason - to stop advertising and sales links being used in signatures.
We really don't want them as part of the forum. If you know someone who wants the link, please give it by PM, once you know that member has requested the information from you.
Thank you.
