Default 5 Yr Old Has Itchy, Red Eyes

Well, his eyeballs themselves are not that red, just the skin around his eyes.

He gets bad allergies this time of year (when the tree pollen in our area starts). Last year we thought it might be redeye, but the doctor said no. Just allergies.

His eyes get really really itchy and they get red around the eye....on the skin around the eye.

His allergies are not systematic, though...he doesn't have any other symptoms of allergies...no coughing or throat problems or asthma....no sneezing...just itchy eyes.

benadryl makes him hyper and unable to sleep....

any suggestions or cures for this sort of thing? thank you

Similasan is a brand of homeopathic eye drops, and one of their formulas is for itchy eyes, you might try that. They sell it in drug stores all over, even Walmart with the other drops, that's where you'll get the cheapest price.

For the redness on the skin, you can try natural vitamin E oil, just piercing a softgel and gently applying with a clean finger should do it. Coconut oil also, if it's not allowed to drip into the eye, just light coat on skin. Internal use of omega 3 or coconut oil will help moisten the skin from the inside out.

I had real good results using a homeopathic remedy for allergies. It has virtually no risk, and works real well, when it works.

It would help to know what he is reacting to, so the proper formulation can be used. In my case it was mold.

I'll look for those homeopath drops. I'm almost 100% positive its not fungus. it only happens in a brief short time right around now (same time it happened last year). We believe its from some sort of pollen that gets flung into the air around here...in Houston. Not sure what kind of pollen or what type of tree. I'll try and find out.

in the meantime, I'll look for those homeopath drops and put a little aloe vera or coconut oil around his eyes, and be sure not to get it into them. We have both.

thanks for the info.

I think Aloe would burn/sting the eye, wouldn't use that. Just the natural Vitamin E or EVCO.

Hi,

It could be sign of a bacterial infection. When your child touches objects with fingers and then rubs his eyes, it could be introducing the bacteria onto his eyelids, by making them red, scaly, itchy.

Of course, please consult an ophthamologist, but I suggest antibiotic ophthamolic ointment to utilize under the eyelids in the eye, such as neomycin and polymyxin.

This is an old post, however, I do not believe in using antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.

That seems to be the problem, antibiotics are overused in all areas including medical and agriculture. Its given out like candy by doctors and veterinarians, and used to fatten animals (and birds) for market. This is creating resistance, which in turn is creating superbugs such as MRSA.

For a suspected eye infection, I would suggest a natural antibiotic, such as colloidal silver. It doesn't matter if the infection is caused by fungus or bacteria, the silver will kill either, and without side effects.

Colloidal silver kills in such a way as to not allow survivors, so no mutation, thus no super bugs.
