Another way to lower the temperature is also (it works for smaller kids as well) to put the cold towel on the forehead, arms and legs.
Statements, like this, make me believe that it is not common medical knowledge, as Arrowwind says, that fever is a good thing. I believe it is a symptom of the immune response mechanisms. That is the creation of cytokine and interleukin factors causing the fever. I does mean that the immune system is trying hard to fix the problem. But the more common reaction of the medical community is to balance the temperature, bring the fever down.

When fever goes up it is believed that that stimulates the production of wbc factors.

The medical community is still not well educated on the proper management of fever. Old beliefs are hard to die and mostly they are thinking of comfort not the mechinisms for the body curing itself.
When the infection declines the fever will go. It is simple as that.
If the fever goes and the infection remains it is harder to cure the infection and it may take longer.

Absolutely right Miss Arrow. I'm learning that while under care of an ENT. She doesn't get that I want to cure the problem, not hide the symptoms.

I can only imagine how difficult it is to work with babies, such as this toddler, who can't explain what is happening.

well, alot of people, like myself are scared of kids getting a high enough fever that can trigger a seizure. that is why we give them something to bring it down.

if i knew they weren't going to have a seizure, then I guess I would let them ride it out...fact is, i don't know that.
