Question Bentonite Clay

Has anyone used bentonite clay for a colon cleanse? Is it effective and safe to use? I'm reminded of bentonite being in scoopable cat litter, and being harmful to cats if ingested...same dangers for people?

Any thoughts, or advice from experience would be appreciated, thanks.

Do you have problems with diatomaceous earth? If so, don't bother with clay. The clays contain silica. I have tried and failed with bentonite as well as another, oromalite (sacred clay) https://www.vitalityherbsandclay.com/

My problem is that the silica binds in my intestines causing constipation. I'm not alone in this. Others have said the same. That's why I was asking you. I have no problem taking the DE every other day, but not every. I don't know why this happens, as silica is the most abundant mineral in the body and we get a lot from diet. Maybe it's because it is a lot when taking spoonfuls. Anyway, I do continue to take DE.

Clay, or shale, as they say in the Midwest, has alumina in it too!

Thanks Jfh and Solstice Goat for your advice and opinions. I've never used DE, but I definitely wouldn't want to be bound up from the silica.

I'm not having any issues that demand a colon cleanse, but I was thinking that maybe I needed one, been around ten years at least since I did a couple of Colonix cleanses...honestly, I wasn't impressed with the results. Using psyllium husks and the occassional Cascara Sagrada does the same thing for me.

I was reading about how the clay scrapes the sides of the colon, and I thought that was a good thing, as nothing I've used had that ability. But I may just hold off on the colon cleanse for awhile, may not even be needed.

Actually DE "scrapes" the sides of the intestines and colon ever so gently. This scraping is why it is so good for parasite control, especially with dogs. And DE, which is 80% silica, food grade of course, is a great aid to internal tissue, skin, hair, nails, bones...

I like the benefits of clay. Some are reputed to help detox radiation. I don't know how that happens.

Just because it binds me, does not mean that it would do any such thing for you. Remember that constipation has been my biggest health complaint for life, second is sinus. So, I'm sensitive to so much more than most people.

Sinuses were mine.

I find that on days we do a lot of bending and lifting at work, my GI seems the most fast and efficient.
