\r\n \r\n I work on a construction site, so my feet are in steel-toed leather construction boots for about ten hours a day, five days a week. After a hard day\'s work, when I come home, my feet are hot, wet, sweaty, and itchy. I am pretty sure I have athlete\'s foot.
\n
\nI have tried the usual creams they sell in the pharmacies for athlete\'s foot: Canesten, Tinactin, Micatin, etc. I hate squeezing those small tubes (like toothpaste tubes) and rubbing the cream over parts of my foot.
\n
\nSo far, these creams have not been a permanent solution.
\nAnd how do you know you\'ve covered all the necessary area of your foot, so that the bacteria doesn\'t come back and re-infect your foot with the athlete\'s foot bacteria, or whatever it is?
\n
\nSo now I am wondering, are there any other treatments for athlete\'s foot? I think I\'d like a solution I could just soak my whole foot in every evening. Is something like that available? That way, I think I\'d cover my whole foot by soaking them in a bucket or something. And it would be a lot more comfortable than smearing cream on myself.
\n
\nAny suggestions?\r\n

\r\n \r\n Alternative Answers for Athlete\'s Foot
\n
\nAthlete\'s Foot: is a fungal infection of the skin also known as "tinea pedis".
\nIn an acute flare-up, the skin of the foot is red or white with scales, cracks,
\ninflammation, cuts, and blisters. There is itching, burning, and stinging. Most
\noften, it occurs in between the toes. During an acute flare-up, secondary
\nbacterial infection is common. In chronic athletes foot, the skin of the sides
\nand sole of the foot is pink and scaly and there is no itchiness.
\n
\nTinea pedis can also infect the scalp, where it causes hair loss and scaly
\npatches. It can infect the body, where it causes round, red, scaly patches, such
\nas ring worm that itch and at the groin, where jock itch causes itching, redness
\nand thickening of the skin. The fungus lives off dead skin cells and thrives in
\nwarm, damp environments, such as the floors around gym locker rooms, showers and
\nindoor swimming pools.
\n
\nDon\'t be confused. Athletes foot can sometimes be confused with dyshydrotic
\ndermatitis, contact or atopic dermatitis, erythrasma and psoriasis.
\n
\n
\nManaging Athlete\'s Foot
\n
\nPrevention is key so it is important to take the following steps to prevent
\ninfection:
\n
\n1. Good hygene is vital. Keep your feet clean. Wash your feet twice a day with
\nsoap and water, and dry them thoroughly. Wash your hands with soap and water
\nafter coming into contact with the infected area. After bathing, wash out the
\ntub or shower with an antiseptic cleaner such as Lysol.
\n
\n2. Keep your feet thoroughly dry, especially between your toes. Use a foot
\npowder to keep feet dry. Simple corn starch makes a good foot dusting powder.
\n
\n3. Wear cotton socks, and change your socks daily. Wash socks in the hot water
\nsetting of a washing machine. Be sure to rinse the socks thoroughly during
\nlaundering, because detergent residue can aggravate your skin problem.
\n
\n4. Don\'t wear tight, closed-toe shoes. Moisture and heat cause athlete\'s foot
\nfungus to thrive. Natural materials such as cotton and leather create the best
\nenvironment for feet, while rubber and even wool may induce sweating and hold
\nmoisture.
\n
\n5. Whenever possible, such as during the summer, wear airy shoes such as
\nsandals. Don\'t go barefoot in public places. Wear slippers or flip-flops.
\n
\n6. Don\'t share towels, and keep your linens and towels clean.
\n
\n7. To further keep your feet dry, allow them to air-dry for 5 or 10 minutes
\nafter a shower.
\n
\n8. Freshen your shoes once a week and keep them clean.
\n
\n9. Remove dead skin as the initial stage of athlete\'s foot has seemed to settle
\ndown, remove any dead skin. This skin contains living fungi that can reinfect
\nyou. In the bath tub, vigorously work the entire foot with a bristle scrub
\nbrush. Pay special attention to spaces between the toes. Use a small bottle
\nbrush or clean toothbrush. If you scrub your feet in the bathtub, shower
\nafterward to wash away any bits of skin that could attack to other parts of the
\nbody and start an infection.
\n
\n10. Toenails are favorite breeding spots for the fungi. Scrape the undersides of
\nyour toenails clean at least every second or third day. Be sure to use a wooden
\nstick, toothpick, or wooden match instead of a metal nail file, which could
\nscratch the nails and provide niches for the fungus to grow in.
\n
\n
\nThe goal in treating athlete\'s foot is to kill the fungus. The tinea fungus is
\ncontagious and once it takes hold, it can be quite tenacious to get rid of. If
\nyou are dealing with athlete\'s foot now, here are some of the best natural
\nremedies for athlete\'s foot:
\n
\n
\nAromatherapy Remedies
\n
\nAromatherapy offers some of the best remedies for tinea pedis fungal infection
\nand they are in the form of essential oils! Helpful, are essential oils of
\neucalyptus, lavender, myrrh, patchouli and tea tree and thyme oils and are all
\nbeneficial for destroying fungal infection. In fact, they seem to work as well
\nif not better than pharmaceutical anti-fungal products.
\n
\nTea Tree: (Melaleuca alternifolia) is the most common natural treatment for
\nathlete\'s foot. Tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties. Tea tree oil can be
\napplied directly to the skin three times a day, covering the affected area.
\nAbout 4 to 10 drops is sufficient. Continue for two weeks after the fungal
\ninfection seems to have disappeared to ensure that it is eradicated. Tea tree
\noil also helps with fungal infections of the nails.
\n
\nStudies have found tea tree oil is an antiseptic and has the ability to kill
\nmany bacteria and fungi. Two clinical trials suggest it may help people with
\nathlete\'s foot. One study examined the effectiveness of 10 percent tea tree oil
\ncream compared with 1 percent tolnaftate (a medicated topical anti-fungal) and
\nplacebo creams in 104 people with athlete\'s foot. The tea tree oil and
\ntolnaftate groups showed improvement in scaling, inflammation, itching, and
\nburning compared to the placebo group, however, only the tolnaftate eradicated
\nthe fungi more effectively than a placebo. Tea tree oil can also be mixed with
\naloe vera gel. About 4 ounces of aloe vera gel to 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree oil
\ncan be combined in a spray bottle and applied twice daily. Allow the feet to dry
\nbefore putting on footwear.
\n
\nEucalyptus: reduces pain, spasms and inflammation, stimulating local blood
\ncirculation and the removal of waste products and toxins from the tissues.
\nEucalyptus helps new tissue to form. This oil has strong anti-fungal, anti-viral
\nand immune stimulating properties. Caution: do not use along with homeopathic
\nremedies, use only for a week at a time and do not use on babies or young
\nchildren.
\n
\nMyrrh is a wonderful pain killer. This antiseptic oil works miracles on cracked
\nskin. It can speed the healing of eczema. The anti-fungal properties make it
\njust right for a foot bath for athlete\'s foot, as a vaginal wash for thrush and
\na very good remedy for pain in Chinese medicine.
\n
\nPatchouli: This rich, spicy oil so often used for nausea also helps normalize
\nblood pressure either by raises blood pressure by restricting external blood
\nflow, or lowers it by dilating surface blood vessels. This oil is warming and an
\nantiseptic. This oil is one of the best for fungal infections on the skin.
\nEspecially for athlete\'s foot, chapped, dry skin, acne, eczema and dermatitis.
\n
\nLavender: is probably the most helpful and Universal oils on the planet. This
\nanti-inflammatory oil blends well with other oils such as soothing Chamomile,
\npain relieving Rosemary essential oil.
\n
\nThyme: is one of the most useful medicinal herbs in natural healing. This oil is
\nan antiseptic, disinfectant, antibiotic and strong germicide. It is extremely
\nvaluable for fighting infections.
\n
\n
\nTraditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Treatments
\n
\nTraditional Chinese medicine considers athletes\' foot as wind, heat and/or damp
\npatterns. The protocol is to clear heat and damp, and to bring yeast cells under
\ncontrol by decreasing the source that is encouraging them to grow, and
\nstrengthen the immune system to prevent their recurrence.
\n
\nAthlete\'s foot can be differentiated into three additional patterns: blistering,
\nerosive, and keratinized. All these three patterns have itching and smell.
\n
\nBlistering is indicated by raised or fluid filled sacks. The erosive pattern is
\nwhitish with exudate, generally between the toes, and turns red after
\nscratching. Keratinized generally is dry and characterized by peeling skin.
\nThese types may be present all at the same time or occur one after another.
\n
\nThree of my favorite, time-tested herbal remedies in the Chinese materia medica
\nare called Damp Heat Soak. Soak your foot or apply the liquid with a wet
\ncompress for about 20 minutes. Let the feet dry.
\n
\nThen apply Drying Powder and dust between the toes with this herbal healing
\npowder.
\n
\nTwice a day, apply Fungal Cream, this non steroid all natural treatment is
\nindicated for management of symptoms associated with tinea pedis fungal
\ninfections such as athlete\'s foot, ringworm and jock-itch.

\r\n \r\n A Permanent Cure for Athlete’s Foot.
\n
\nOne of 365 rhymes in 365 days at stephenofbowleyfarm blog.
\nMost of them are rather more entertaining than this one!
\n
\nThere’s not much worse than itchy feet;
\n(Of course there is, there’s chicken pox!),
\nBut all along we all could beat,
\nIt, not by simply washing socks…
\n
\nThe doctor’s seem to all agree,
\nThat frankly there’s not much to do;
\nThat athlete’s foot (to you and me),
\nAlways will revisit you.
\n
\nThey prescribe an ointment that,
\nClears it up occasionally,
\nBut after decades I’d say; ‘fat
\nLot of good it has done me!’
\n
\nAll the time something quite simple;
\nNot a cure but a prevention,
\nWill keep in check each itch and pimple…
\nSomething of my own invention!
\n
\nWhen you wash your feet each day,
\nAnd make sure that your socks are fresh;
\nA handwash lotion is the way,
\nTo guarantee fungus-free flesh!
\n
\nYou know the stuff they put in wards,
\nThat when you’re visiting your grands,
\nThe signs all point people towards;
\nA gel with which to wash your hands.
\n
\nThat’s the stuff to go and buy,
\nAnd once a day put ‘tween your toes;
\nNo more itches, give it a try,
\nAnd that’s the way the story goes.
\n
\nIt is so simple I don’t know,
\nWhy it took so long for me,
\nTo think of it and then to show,
\nIt to the world, it’s yours for free!
\n
\nThis is not, perhaps, the greatest poem in history, but hopefully the information in it will alleviate the suffering of millions.
\n
\nA permanent cure for Athletes Foot and other fungal skin problems.
\n
\nI am an amputee and for twenty one years have had to carefully manage itchy skin infections that occur on my leg stump as it is encased in a silicon lined sock to prevent chafing in the artificial leg. Every so often a fungal infection would break out as a result of perspiration not being really thoroughly cleaned away each day. The itching would drive me mad, and the medical profession suggested ointments you are no doubt familiar with; Canesten, Fucidin, Pevaryl and such like. These had varying degrees of success but the infections always returned, and I noticed they were almost always in exactly the same places.
\n
\nI realized that keeping everything clean was the most important thing I could do preventatively, and every day I bathed and washed the silicon lining with soap. This was still not enough, and one day when using some antibacterial handwash in a hospital somewhere it dawned on me to get some for my leg. I began using a little on my stump every day after a bath as a final thing before getting dressed or going to bed. The handwash rubs in and the residue evaporates in a few seconds so the stump is completely dry when the sock goes on, more than when using a towel and the various aforementioned creams. From the very first day I tried this, many months ago, I have not had a single itch. A regular 250 ml bottle of the stuff has lasted me nine months or more.
\n
\nI used to have Athletes feet, (I only have one now, of course), and until recently I would get the occasional irritation recurring, and realized that it was more or less the same as what I had been getting on my stump. I have since started to rub the same antibacterial handwash onto my foot as well as the stump every day after my bath. I have had no itches since and the skin on my foot has virtually stopped shedding. Of course you need to have a daily bath or shower and always wear clean socks, preferably not all artificial fibres, but this will keep that awful athletes foot away form ever. Simples as they say.
\n
\nIf this puts Canasten, Pevaryl and Fucidin out of business, well, you had your day, and maybe you’ll find something else to do, but what it should do is put doctors to shame for not having thought of it, or if they did, never telling me.
\n
\nAll I ask, if you find this information useful, is to go and have a look at my blog of silly rhyming stories; I want lots of visitors! Stephenofbowleyfarm.blogspot.co.uk
\n
\nMany thanks to one and all, and I hope you will never suffer again.
\n
\nI think doctors, who have to deal with much more serious conditions every day, may have been rather complacent about things like Athlete’s Foot, or, cynically, been receiving commissions from the makers of ointments and powders which frankly leave a lot to be desired.
\n
\nI got Athletes Foot at boarding school in about 1969 along, I suspect, with every other pupil there, and finally got rid of it at the beginning of this year in 2012! In the meantime I must have used countless tubes of cream which, although they are capable of clearing up a fungal infection, do nothing to prevent its reappearance. I am astonished and dismayed that the medical professions, including of course the whole lot who deal with my amputation and prosthetics have never suggested using the antibacterial handwash that I have found so effective. You need only a tiny amount, rub it into your feet, the excess simply evaporates, and your feet are sterilized, clean and dry. Two quid’s worth will last half a year or more.
\n
\nPerhaps I was the last to hear, not the first, and that everyone knew this all along, but just in case you didn’t, I would like to think that some other people out there get permanent relief from what is a very uncomfortable affliction. Tell the kids.

\r\n \r\n Spray inside your workboots (as well as shoes) with colloidal silver. (10-20 parts per million). Do this on a daily basis to prevent the fungi and bacteria from growing.
\n
\nColloidal silver not only kills organisms of all kinds, but also eliminates odour.
\n
\nI would also suggest turning socks inside out, spraying them with colloidal silver, and letting them dry before wearing.
\n
\nThere are also powders available to help with the sweating, however, you could also wear boots with better ventilation.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Good tips! I was having a lot of problems with athletes foot as I was wearing socks in bed because I get cold feet in the winter. I found that if I wore legwarmers and no socks then I was warm enough and this helped me not to get it as much.
\n
\nBig fan of colloidial silver (I used to use it on my throat and especially when people sneeze around me) so may give that a try too!\r\n

Default Athlete's Foot Treatment

I work on a construction site, so my feet are in steel-toed leather construction boots for about ten hours a day, five days a week. After a hard day's work, when I come home, my feet are hot, wet, sweaty, and itchy. I am pretty sure I have athlete's foot.

I have tried the usual creams they sell in the pharmacies for athlete's foot: Canesten, Tinactin, Micatin, etc. I hate squeezing those small tubes (like toothpaste tubes) and rubbing the cream over parts of my foot.

So far, these creams have not been a permanent solution.
And how do you know you've covered all the necessary area of your foot, so that the bacteria doesn't come back and re-infect your foot with the athlete's foot bacteria, or whatever it is?

So now I am wondering, are there any other treatments for athlete's foot? I think I'd like a solution I could just soak my whole foot in every evening. Is something like that available? That way, I think I'd cover my whole foot by soaking them in a bucket or something. And it would be a lot more comfortable than smearing cream on myself.

Any suggestions?
