Something which dogs and cats seem to love instinctively, and which can be extremely beneficial in healing a variety of medical conditions, in humans as well as in our animal friends, is the almost completely lactose free milk product, Colostrum, also known as "first milk". Sovereign Laboratories produces a product called, Colostrum-LD, which is recommended by the well known and highly respected integrative physician, Robert Jay Rowen, M.D., Editor of the medical newsletter, SECOND OPINION.

You can read all about it on the Sovereign Labs website, including about its usefulness wtih animals, where they state in pertinent part:

" There are additional benefits from Colostrum:

Increase[d] mobility, increased energy, increased strength and stamina, improved recovery from training competetive events and injury. It will help heal wounds internally and externally and can be liberally applied to both areas [internal and external]. It decreases opportunistic infection, and accelerates cellular reproduction. It reduces inflammation. It is also very beneficial in increasing fat utilization and increased lean muscle mass. This makes for a leaner more beautiful animal with healthy coats and better dispositions.

It is massively beneficial with older animals to help them regain movement, shed unwanted weight, restore mobility, reduce joint pain and restore youthful vigor.

The results of Colostrum-LD use with animals is quick and very noticeable, usually within a day or two with increasing benefits over time. Cats and dogs love its taste and instinctively recognize its benefits.

To use simply sprinkle some powder in their dish or offer for first time from your hand. Once they try Colostrum-LD on their food they won't eat it without it. ..."

To read all about it click on the following Link for the Sovereign Labs website and explore the Links on the left hand side of the page, including those Testimonials about human use as well as this one for its use with animals:

Another excellent brand of colostrum is Symbiotics, which is a New Zealand brand now available in the U.S. I suggest going to the iherb website and putting colostrum into their Search box and reading about the various brands/products, including the Testimonials - iherb.com calls them "Reviews" - for each product to give you an idea of how well they have worked or have not worked for people, as well as for their animals, worldwide. I suggest starting with this one for Symbiotics Powder (note that for animals you can also order capsules and simply break them open to sprinkle out the powder) and its Testimonials/Reviews which include a few about its use with the family pet(s):

For those worried about possible problems with Lactose Intolerance, I have that problem myself but I am currently using the ColostruMune brand from swansonvitamins.com without any major problem. I started with one 500mg capsule and have worked up to as much as 4 grams (8 capsules) at a time with no problem except for an initial Herxheimer reaction for about the first two days. However as a precaution I do take one Lactase Chewable tablet (supplying the Lactose sugar digesting enzyme, Lactase and available in pharmacy stores over the counter in the U.S., e.g., RiteAid, CVS, Walmart, etc.) with the dose of Colostrum. I can also tell you that Colostrum does in fact work as advertised, at least for me - increased energy, increased lean muscle mass, etc., noticed after just the second day!

However, I would add that if you or your pet/animal for which the Colostrum is intended has an "allergy" to milk products - much different than simple Lactose Intolerance - you probably should not use it.
