By now means am I an expert, but I read recently that muscle confusion with plateau is a myth according to a recent study. The idea is you can do say 10 push ups and you get stronger and stronger and can barely do 10 after doing it awhile you can get 10 easily. Well people won't push as hard to get 11 or 12, so that's the plateau not the consistency. The article I read was trying to prove that everybody plateau, but muscle confusion wasn't the cause of it.

Personally, I exercise to improve my mood or to shift my focus when I'm feeling anxious. I've never been motivated enough to exercise regularly for the sole reasons of physical fitness or to look good. I guess that's mainly because I'm not fat or anything, although there's certainly some areas I'd like less fat in.. which still isn't motivating enough. :P

I don't really exercise because I feel I have to or I should. When I exercise, it is because I want to do something. I rarely go on a treadmill or a bike or lift weights.

First of all, I am lifting heavy people, cleaning and moving around constantly at my job. Next, I am always hiking, swimming or kayaking on my off days. In winter, I'm still walking all the time just because I like to walk. Otherwise, I just put on music because I feel like it and I start to dance because I feel like it.

Exercise should not be something you "have to" do....You should want to do it and if you don't want to then something is probably wrong with you. Either you are depressed or in pain or fatigued or something. No one should ever feel like going to the gym is a must. Nah, you aint got to go to the gym! Whatever you like to do is just fine!

If you are religious you have to wonder why God created snow, gardens, and grass... is it because all these things require exercise to work and/or remove?

Now consider most people don't plant a garden, have a riding mower, and a snowblower, or have someone else do the work... so where is the exercise?

If your job is physical labour you'll be ok, but if you work in an office, well you might want to consider a push mower, a hoe, and a shovel..

The whole idea behind exercise is not to burn calories. Hell it would take a half hour just to burn the calories from one cookie.. The idea is to raise your heart rate. This increases blood flow, which increases oxygen and nutrients to the cells and organs, which also increases removal of toxins from cells and organs.

While exercising, the liver causes chemical reactions that help the body to burn rather than store fuel.

Ha! Riding snow blower and lawn mower? That's for the lazy people! LOL. There is no fun in clearing snow if you don't shovel it!! I don't think it's work at all. I think it's fun! But of course, I am a hick from Wisconsin...

wait, you mean to say that "NOT having muscle confusion wasn't the cause of it", right? if so, i agree. muscle confusion can mean simply changing the duration of a workout or the number of reps of a workout, even if it is the same workout. all too often people just get in the rut of doing x number of reps or logging x number of miles and call it a day, and that is the cause of a plateau. the idea of muscle confusion is really just the idea of trying new things or new variations on the same thing.

one can't change another persons idea of working out, so whether or not trying something new is fun is totally up to them, but personally, i love nothing more than discovering a new activity or exercise. i agree with kelly entirely, it just so happens that some of the activities that i love to do, are easiest done at a gym. cardio kickboxing being the main one.

It may be that your metabolism slows down and you end up gaining etc.

personally I exercise (I go to belly dancing once a week, ride my horse, have an exercise bike I use, light weights and DVDs such as 30 Day Shred and P90X2 when I'm too busy to get 'out') for mental and physical well being. I am still overweight but that is an eating 'issue' in respect that I am a comfort eater but it helps me maintain losses over the last decade. I am still working on decreasing my weight further after losing baby weight last year.
How I wish I could afford everything to have my own horse. I use friends and I love them. I hope you know how lucky you are.

I took a long hiatus from working out/exercising and i can tell you that for me, personally, it keeps my anxiety/nervous energy at bay. Not only that but i just feel stronger from working out...more energy, etc. I guess it's all just personal preference....

I got your letter today
And I miss you all so much, here
I can't wait to see you all
And I'm counting the days, dear
I still believe that there's gold
At the end of the world
And I'll come home
To Illinois
On the day after tomorrow

It is so hard
And it's cold here
And I'm tired of taking orders
And I miss old Rockford town
Up by the Wisconsin border
But I miss you won't believe
Shoveling snow and raking leaves
And my plane will touch tomorrow
On the day after tomorrow

I close my eyes
Every night
And I dream that I can hold you
They fill us full of lies
Everyone buys
About what it means to be a soldier
I still don't know how I'm supposed to feel
About all the blood that's been spilled
Look out on the street
Get me back home
On the day after tomorrow

You can't deny
The other side
Don't want to die
Any more than we do
What I'm trying to say,
Is don't they pray
To the same God that we do?
Tell me, how does God choose?
Whose prayers does he refuse?
Who turns the wheel?
And who throws the dice
On the day after tomorrow?

Mmmmmmm...
I'm not fighting
For justice
I am not fighting
For freedom
I am fighting
For my life
And another day
In the world here
I just do what I've been told
You're just the gravel on the road
And the one's that are lucky
One's come home
On the day after tomorrow

And the summer
It too will fade
And with it comes the winter's frost, dear
And I know we too are made
Of all the things that we have lost here
I'll be twenty-one today
I've been saving all my pay
And my plane will touch down
On the day after tomorrow
And my plane it will touch down
On the day after tomorrow
