Question ALA Supplement and Mercury Fillings

I have old mercury dental fillings that I don't intend to remove and replace unless absolutely necessary. Should I stop taking Alpha Lipoic Acid, since it chelates heavy metals? I also use Chlorella to help remove toxins/metals from the system.

Chelation should BIND metals for the duration of the chelation agent in the body. I'm not sure how ALA works. Does it bind or does it just cause the metal to be freed? You'd need to do research.

I feel the same as you regarding old fillings. I don't like, but I'm not going to spend the money and effort to replace them. I'm not convinced of the replacements anyway. Through the years, most have already been replaced. I even, unfortunately, have 3 crowns that replaced the worst of them. I wish I could afford to just get implants.

I've read that after 2 years, and metal release damage has already been done and very little is left to do. Those bad metals are bound tightly to other components within the filling. So chelation should clear your system. But those first 2 years can be very damaging.

That is my understanding too. Kinda like a half-life deal; pretty strong in the beginning and very weak later.

Liverock voiced some concern in an older thread I posted about ALA, and I stopped taking it that day, and it's been 'up in the air' for me since. He pointed out the references he made in the comments of this article https://www.healthyfellow.com/1446/al...ion/#more-1446, but I still had mixed feelings about taking it, and don't fully understand. He points out that the metals may travel to places like the brain.

I'd really like to start taking it again for all the benefits. I have several crowns also, lots of dental work for me since I was a child.

Amalgam fillings continue to release mercury for decades if they are not removed.

Spirulina and chlorella along with vitamin c will help chelate heavy metals, including mercury from the blood, however as stated above, the only real solution is to have the mercury removed.

I've had all mine removed, makes no sense to have such a toxic metal in such close proximity to your alimentary canal for life?
