Default Taurine

Following cheaphealer's interesting post here Exposing and stopping the Thiazide Holocaust I looked up Taurine and found several papers that not only confirm Cheaphealer's ideas but lead on to other interesting information that makes me wonder why it is so ignored.

Taurine and atherosclerosis

Potential role of taurine in the prevention of diabetes and metabolic syndrome

TAURINE DIURETIC AND RENAL-REVITALIZING EFFECTS IN NONAGENARIANS Taurine decreases hyperuricemia greater than 8.6 mg/dL to normal levels in 3 to 6 months.

Review: Taurine: A “very essential” amino acid

IHERB do a Now foods Taurine Powder quite cheap. Codes available for initial discount if you ask.
In one of the papers above they used 1.0 g three times per day to relieve edema without causing hypotension in nonagenarians in another 6g day was used so the powder version is going to work out cheaper than capsules. It's no problem to dissolve and doesn't taste.

If anyone can't get any of the papers listed above to download then do ask and I'll find a way to let your read them. They all downloaded for me but that may because I've logged into the site before.

The role of taurine in diabetes and the development of diabetic complications.
There are a lot of "may"s in this paper and animal models. Not a lot of human diabetic research so it's guesswork really but as it's cheap and appears to be safe and

taurine depletion in diabetes may contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction and it is possible that restoration of taurine contributes to normalize mitochondrial function, which may associate with inhibition of the ROS production from mitochondria.
it may be worth giving it a trial.

I can see now why people thought oysters were a health food pity, I don't like them.
