Default whats a good LICORICE ROOT supplement ?

I have to be careful with sweetness, so it can't be too sweet.
Is the DGL useful?
Someone said that Stash tea is a good brand but from the comments I see on amazon.com it looks to be on the sweet side.

Licorice root, so I am told , helps with fatigue and liver.

You could just get licorice root and use whatever sweetener you want (or don't want)? Many health food stores carry loose herbs like licorice (Frontier brand usually) or you can order them from an herbalist online.

Actually, one of the herbalists close to me sells a nice pre-mixed liver cleansing tea. Dandelion Root, Barberry, Boldo, Fringe Tree, Gentian, Centaury and Milk Thistle. Her prices are always among the best and I find her quality is excellent.

You could find a capsule form of licorice root if the sweetness is an issue. Though I would avoid going too cheap buying herbs, as you might not be getting quality stuff.

If you want a tea, have you investigated Yogi teas? They have a couple of Licorice teas and a Detox tea that might work. They're also readily available -- the health section at Kroger sells them around here.

thanks for replying, good info there.
I have to be careful with Glycyrrhiza glabra (as its 50 times sweeter than sugar which I have to avoid.)

If I get Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice(DGL) Root.... will that take the sweetness out? Its the Glycyrrhiza thats sweet right?

DGL licorice root is simple licorice root with the steroidal compound removed. It is the steroidal factor that helps to support the adrenals. This is what is the major cause of fatigue - adrenal weakness. The adrenals require vitamin C as their most important nutrient. Second is vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), but it is not good to take a single B vitamin. Find a good B50 complex. The third most important thing for the adrenals is adaptogenic herbs such as licorice, yucca, ginseng, and schizandra. I prefer schizandra for my adaptogen.

Most people are afraid of licorice, because they have heard that it raises blood pressure. Sure enough, it would be the sterols that cause this. However, it would take nearly 50 grams over 6 months for this to happen.

thanks, thats so helpful. I am wary of taking licorice becuase I have a bacterial infection that likes sugar (not candida, but something called Rickettsia, ie: Typhus). I just wonder if licorice in its non-DGL form will not be good for me because of its sweetness?
Maybe I can take something else that does the same job as licorice such as you mentioned: yucca, ginseng, and schizandra. Although I know nothing about these at the moment.....

thanks,,

In your original post, you mentioned fatigue. That is why I mentioned those other supplements. Licorice root is very sweet. If you are concerned, just don't take it at all. It is the whole root that would help your fatigue.

Schizandra is very easy to find at any online supplement vendor and probably even locally. https://www.naturalnews.com/009229.html

Yucca root is also easy to find https://www.raysahelian.com/yucca.html

I'm guessing Schizandra and Yucca do a similar job to Licorice but minus the sweetness issue?

Yes. Similar for the adrenals. However, licorice root can do other things better than those other herbs. For example, licorice root helps to break up phlegm, as an expectorant. It can also treat peptic ulcers. So, as I said, it depends upon what your are trying to resolve.

Would dandelion suffice? It works for the liver as well as the kidneys. No sweetness involved.

Yes, its the fatigue. Your statement about the vitamin C and the B vitamin complex (you said B50 tho) interests me. I am already taking vit C 1000mg per day since two weeks ago and feel somewhat better.
I had a bacterial infection which caused some chronic fatigue. Now I've had anti biootic therpahy and feel better. Now I want to build up my system, and by God's grace I will.

Dandilion is excellent, but not for your fatigue. It would still be good to build up your system. So would nettle leaf. It even has vitamin c.
