Lightbulb MSM (Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane)

I take a 1,000 mg capsule of MSM almost everyday, along with other vitamins, minerals and supplements. Here's an article about MSM: https://www.naturalnews.com/032449_MSM_absorption.html

Very interesting. Last night I read that DMSO is also MSM. DMSO aka MSM makes supplements/medicines cross the blood brain barrier and they more bioavailable. It is suppose to be one of the most potent antioxidants out there. hmmm. MSM is even suggestion to protect yourself from radiation.

Kind2creatures, that's great to hear you take it.

My husband and I have both been taking MSM for years now. I bought some DMSO years ago, on a whim, but ended up throwing it in the trash after reading some safety hazards. I shy away from taking anything that might be risky as far as side effects, etc.

One of the factors that set both DMSO and MSM apart is that they are small molecules. DMSO tips the scales at a molecular weight of 78; MSM, 94. By chemistry standards, they are featherweight molecules. They mimic water in this respect. Water has a very low molecular weight and passes through tissue. DMSO and MSM pass through the skin and into the tissue below. Just like DMSO, MSM is very useful when employed as a topical gel, cream, or lotion to help in the relief of local pain and inflammation. Unlike DMSO, however, MSM cannot transport medication with it.

Another difference between the two compounds is that DMSO is a proven and powerful free-radical scavenger, that is, an antioxidant, whereas MSM's is not a free radical scavenger.

I take it and give it to my dad. I read one article where people with emphysema who take it for 2 months double their walking distance.

Two years ago a guy at the health food store who sells supplements said that I should give my 1.5 year old daughter some MSM because she had 3 swollen toes for six months. Didn't take the advice and she still has 3 swollen toes. Maybe I should be a little more open minded about it.

I don't know. Personally, I haven't had any heartburn or negative side effects with MSM.
