Default Probiotics Combat Constipation

In a previous life, I had a customer who had a persistent problem with constipation - despite eating well, exercising and drinking adequately. I suggested that he give probiotics a try to see if they might help. It did. For him, that was the missing link.

Quote:
Writing in the Nutrition Journal, researchers from the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam report state that previous studies with single strains showed conflicting results, and that a mixture of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria strains may hold the key.

"Given their safety profile, probiotics could be an attractive compound to manipulate gastrointestinal motility in constipated children," wrote lead author Noor Bekkali.

"Based on the results of our pilot study we hypothesise that a mixture of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli producing lactic, acetic and other acids resulting in a lowering of pH in the colon are effective in enhancing motility of the colon, subsequently leading to a decrease in colonic transit time," he added.

Probiotics can treat both diarrhea and constipation, which are considered opposites. This should be a graphic demonstration of how treating causes instead of just the symptoms (diarrhea and constipation are just symptoms!), leads to real cures.

There are many explained mechanisms of action of probiotics. And they even work beyond the digestive tract.

One action that may not be as popular is their role in the immune system. Their cell walls contain sugars that attach to macrophages, resulting in release of cytokines and chemokines that get/keep the immune system up and going. (Such a role is also fulfilled by glyconutrients from other sources.)

Another role is that they may occupy cell receptor sites that might otherwise be occupied by pathogenic microbes, thus preventing invasion.

Kevin,

There are many good products out there. Determining which one(s) is/are right, for any given situation, would be based on what goal you're hoping to accomplish.

For instance, if the probiotic is being used to help with constipation, I would try this product:

Culturelle - https://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails....&pid=7797&at=0

If it was intended to help a woman deal with a UTI or yeast-related issues, I'd probably recommend this product:

Fem-Dophilus - https://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails....&pid=7917&at=1

And, if someone needed some really powerful support (for more serious conditions), I would give this product a shot:

Primadophilus Intensive

Default Original SBO's

Kevin,

I recommend Body Biotics, formerly called Natures Biotics, before that Earth Flora. These are the original SBO's that were copied by Jordan Rubin for his Garden of Life SBO's.

Body Biotics™ 30 year time-tested advanced formula, under the brand name Nature’s Biotics, has helped hundred’s of thousands of customer in 36 countries from around the world. Through the daily use of this essential blend–rich in “friendly/good” bacteria and a few lifestyle changes in your diet, you can influence the balance of the ecology of your gut flora and dramatically improve your overall health and wellbeing. This cultured superior SBO (soil based organisms) blend works to achieve this balance by introducing these friendly bacteria back into your daily diet to help:

Boost your immune system,
Aid in eliminating toxic waste from your body and
Enhances your ability to increase absorption of other nutrients by an estimated 40 to 50%.

The specific bacteria it contains are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bacillus lichenformis, Bacillus subtilis, Lactobacillus lactis, Lactobacillus casi, Lactobacillus fermentum and Lactobacillus plantarum.

https://www.upwardquest.com/

Read the articles on that page for all the info on SBO's.

Forgot to add that this is a stabile product and does not require refrigeration as all other probiotics do. Most of them are dead by the time you buy them:

Through a special process, Body Biotics™ SBO's are kept dormant in the powder and do not become active until placed in an aqueous solution (like water or juice). Because of this, Body Biotics™ has a shelf-life of over five years at room temperature. This powder is packaged in 500 milligram pure vegetarian capsules.
