Default Danger! S510 May Pass. Take Action Now!

I found this on another forum. We really need to take action now! and repeatedly! If it continue like this this bill will pass, and it will be a further step towards loss of freedom, producing and sell or trading or giving away food you grow yourself. You can forget those eggs you get from your neighbor!

Sponsor of the Bill is Richard Durbin-Dem. - Illinois

Since I had to look it up myself, I will point out for the sake of others like me that "passing a cloture vote" means they now must start winding up debate on a bill and move on towards votin' on it. A congressional rule originally intended to break filibusters.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloture

In case any of you would like to try and change a few senators minds, here is the break down of the cloture vote yesterday:

The Nays are all Republicans except one. The Yeas are mixed parties. TX voted Nay. Nays means they don't want to call for vote. Right?

I got an email from the farm and ranch freedom alliance today... I copied it here for you:
Quote:
Good news on the food safety bill!

Senator Jon Tester has reached an agreement with the authors of S. 510 to include a compromise version of the Test...er-Hagan amendment in the Senate food safety bill.

This is a true grassroots victory, and would not have been possible without your support! Thank you to everyone who called their Senators, both during this week and the preceding months!!

The compromise amendment will exempt producers who gross less than half a million dollars and who sell more than half their products directly to consumers or "qualified end users" from the HARCP/ HACCP requirements and the produce safety standards. "Qualified end users" include restaurants and retailers who are either in-state or within 275 miles of the producer, and who purchase the food to sell directly to consumers.

The compromise version of the amendment allows FDA to withdraw the exemption if a farm or facility is "directly linked" to a foodborne illness disease outbreak or if it is "necessary" to "prevent or mitigate a foodborne illness outbreak based on conduct or conditions" at the facility or farm.

The amendment includes other important provisions:

* It specifies that "retail food establishments" - which are exempt from the existing requirements to register with FDA and from the new HACCP/ HARCP requirements -- includes businesses that sell
directly to consumers through CSAs, farmers markets and roadside stands.

* It requires FDA to conduct a study that looks at the incidence of foodborne illness in relation to the size and type of the facility, as well as the risks associated with commingling, processing, transporting, and storing food, "including differences in risk based on the scale and duration of such activities." In other words, for the first time, FDA will have to collect and evaluate data on how different management practices affect the risk of foodborne illness.

* It requires FDA to consider that data in defining "very small businesses", which will also be exempt from the HACCP/ HARCP requirements

While the inclusion of this amendment in the bill is very good news, it is not the end of the process. If the bill ultimately passes, we will have to be involved in the rulemaking process to address the issues facing medium-scale producers and those who do not sell directly. We will also have to be prepared to speak up and oppose any FDA abuse of its powers.

The bill itself has yet to pass the Senate, and it then must be reconciled with the House version. We will continue to keep you updated on the bill's progress.

The amendment text and a summary are posted on Senator Tester's website

Read more about S.510 on our website
And while yes, this is still a bad bill.... at least the backyard farmer is protected (we hope)

PUSH BACK rate reaches 5,000 emails an hour to decision makers!
Keep sending those messages! And PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS, Too

Senate Calendar Here:
https://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/legisl endars.htm

S.510, the horrific, fake food safety bill (and possibly its evil companions, $.3767 and the discredited S.3002) will be pushed through the Lame Duck Congress this week. It is definitely on the Obama Lame Duck Agenda. Our friends in DC have confirmed this.

Yesterday the Senate voted to end debate (cloture) on bill $.510, setting the stage for a final vote. The exact schedule of voting is not clear. What is clear is that this bill, and its horrific companion pieces MUST NOT be allowed to pass despite the determination of the worst combination of Lame Duck destructiveness, Corporate greed and Regulatory irresponisiblity.

The delays, if they occur, may, in fact, be exactly what we need. The President, Secretary Sebelius and the US Senate have been bombarded with more than 600,000 emails from you and more from the supporters of the many, many health and food freedom groups who have followed our leads and asked their supporters to send the same message to the same recipients: DON'T YOU DARE!

So we may have hours or days to make sure that we still have food freedom without having to fight for repeal or use other strategies to make sure that we control the quality of the food that we eat. Health Freedom, including food freedom, IS our first freedom.

IT IS URGENT THAT EVERY HEALTH AND FOOD FREEDOM GROUP WARN THEIR SUPPORTERS AND FLOOD CONGRESS WITH NO $.510! MESSAGES, NOW!

Please forward this message widely. Please take the Action Item below each day this week, for each person in your family!

Thumbs up 510 Vote Delayed Until After Thanksgiving

Senate Bill 510 vote delayed until after Thanksgiving - Take action now to oppose food tyranny

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) If there's one thing to give thanks for this year, it's the fact that the Senate floor vote on the so-called "Food Safety Modernization Act" has been delayed until after the Senate's Thanksgiving recess. This gives all of us -- the commonsense opponents of S.510 who don't want the FDA having authority over raw milk, seeds and backyard gardens -- another week to flood the offices of U.S. Senators with calls, faxes and emails that express opposition to the bill.

The jury is still out on the Tester-Hagan Amendment which would exempt small farmers from some of the more tyrannical requirements under the law. If this amendment were adopted, it would substantially improve the bill, but even with this amendment, the bill is just another overreaching expansion of Big Government into yet another area of incompetence. (If the government can't run health care worth a darn, how are they supposed to manage the entire food supply?)

The 1099 paperwork amendment

As part of this debate over the safety of the food supply, Sen Mike Johanns is making a courageous attempt to kill the new, idiotic 1099 reporting requirement that would require every person running a small business in America to get 1099 forms from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Costco, Amazon.com or any other retailer where they've spent over $600 in the previous year.

This absolute nightmare of 1099 paperwork was passed as part of the Obamacare health care reform legislation earlier this year (https://www.naturalnews.com/028854_1...). It will turn America's small business owners into paperwork pack rats and criminalize anyone who doesn't spent several hundred hours a year chasing 1099 forms from corporations that are almost certain to refuse to give them to you. This is the government's way of penalizing small business owners in America and killing off yet more jobs as a way to destroy the economy.

This 1099 recall is the only real positive thing being considered in the Food Safety and Modernization Act. And as you've probably noticed, it has nothing to do with food.

What comes next for S.510

On Monday, November 29, a vote will be taken on the Harkin amendment, which is merely a rephrasing of the bill with some new wording that came out of committee.

After that, a vote is planned for the bill itself, meaning S.510 could be passed into law on November 29th.

Additional debate time might be invoked for various amendments to the bill, as there are some motions still pending (Johanns, Baucus, Coburn). So it's not a given thing that a final vote will happen on Nov 29th.

Watch NaturalNews.com for more updates on this bill throughout next week. We will continue to rally opposition to the bill.

I'm not against some commonsense improvements in food safety, but to give Big Brother yet more control over seed saving, backyard food production and small organic farms is an outright disaster, not an improvement.

Besides, as we now know, the problem with e.coli, salmonella and other pathogensin the food supply is really a problem with factory animal farms -- notably cattle and chicken operations. That's where these pathogens come from (e.coli grows in the intestines of animals), so cleaning up factory animal farms is the answer to food safety, not invoking the FDA and its food irradiation agenda.

Why not hand the FDA more power over our food supply?

It's amazing to see that people are lining up to grant more power to the FDA -- the very agency that has killed more Americans through its corruption, fraud and negligence than any other organization in the history of the nation.

I've written a full story on this important fact, which details how the FDA is far more dangerous than terrorists and that putting the FDA in charge of our national food supply can only lead to disaster. Read that story at: https://www.naturalnews.com/030461_S...

the bill s510 was passed, but apparently there was a glitch... and it might die from the glitch... apparently some where in the bill it adds taxes, and the senat is not allowed to add taxes, only the house can.... From what i am reading, this might kill the bill but we need to keep paying attention!

Another part of this bill effectively outlaws any “unsafe medications.” Taken to its logical conclusion, this provision could extend to dietary supplements and herbal products. Apparently S510 is still alive and well and hidden in a bill that will surely pass no matter what. Shirley's wellness cafe has been posting about it on facebook this morning... here is one of the sites she is basing her info off of

https://www.naturalnews.com/030672_Fo...#ixzz17cGVBQ7H
and another
https://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o...ction_KEY=5303

apparently the s510 can be taken out of the bill and still pass, but we need to flood our senators with phone calls telling them not to pass this mess!
