Default Make Your Own! (potions/remedies)

I have recently made my own cough syrup(1.5 pints water, 40g Thyme and 1lb honey were the ingredients), and am as pleased as punch! Even my wife Nikki says its good stuff! I have also made tooth powder which has been a revelation! Ingredients included sea salt, bi carb and cloves; this blend really makes your mouth come alive and your teeth actually feel clean too!

Have any other members made their own potions, and if so would you like to add your experiences to this thread? In Europe we will soon lose a lot of natural remedies and this is the reason why I am embarking upon this path. I refuse to bow down to these draconian measures, and will be growing my own herbs and veg; also I have started a local group for people interested in doing this.

Namaste,

rev

That sounds like a perfect combination for a cough syrup! I often use honey on its own, or in tea for colds and cough, and thyme seems like a great partner!

It's good advice to buy natural herbs and supplements while they're still available, very smart to make your own mixtures too!

rev, great idea all around. I like how you are starting a group for people with the same interest. Its scary to think about, but I believe that kind of thing is becoming more necessary. I would like to do something simmilar in my area. Its tough to grow a lot of your own stuff here though, the temp right now is -32C

Good for you Rev. for bath salts just use Epsom Salts, I doubt they will be taking that away and you can't do much better

I have a wham bang herbal tincture for flu but I can't get to it right now. Will post it later

Hi, I like that idea of making your own remedies...your tooth past and cough medicine sounds great. I've created a potion made from dried bay leaves, pimento leaves/grains, sinnomon leaves and soursop leaves all...left to ferment in a bottle of 100% Over proof Jamaica white rum.

Place the bottle in a dark cupboard for a month or so...Then it is ready, this is can be used as a body for general aching muscles and joints. It helps with sprains too, and can be used as aftershave. Caution though: Not to be taken internally and use sparingly.

Bye for now

paleon, I'm not familiar with soursop. I looked it up, and it seems native to Mexico and south of that. Seems very helpful medicinally. It would be interesting to find cinnamon leaves around here too. Bay leaves are no problem to find.

I'll bet it smells great when done.

The only natural item I've ever put together was non-iodized sea salt with a pinch of aluminum-free baking soda, mixed with tepid filtered water and used as a nasal rinse. Started using the mixture in a neti pot, but now prefer to just sniff some up the nose when needed for dryness or colds.

Thank you rev.. I mixed up some of your cough syrup last night (sortof) I had some honey left in the jar, so added a cup of water and a teaspoon of the thyme.. but then I also added some collodial silver for good measure... when I try to make a real batch according to your directions, I might add some lemon.

My wife heard about "Thieves Oil" and bought a small 4 oz bottle for about $25.00. Thieves Oil is a blend of essential oils which claim to have anti-bacterial and anti-mildew properties.

We learned we can make our own using Jojoba oil as the base and essential oils mixed in. The DIY recipes from the internet did not include Ginger oil, which we added to the others listed. After buying all the oils, bottles and sprayer heads, our cost per 4 oz bottle is around $3.00. We have given some away as gifts.
