Default HELP! problems during pregnancy

Hi everyone I am new here. I am almost 8 months pregnant and have developed a rather nasty cold over the past week. It started off in my chest as a cough, moved to my head making it stuffy, then infecting my ears, and finally pink eye as of Friday. Pink eye has been cured but the docs said there is little they could do for the ear infection. It is very painful, and I can't hear. Feels like someone is trying to push their way out of my head through my ear. I can't even sleep on that side because it is so painful.

Any suggestions or tips, tricks I can try that won't hurt the baby? I am desperate at this point and will try anything.

I'm going Monday to see the OBGYN and hopefully he will be able to give me some relief. Until then any suggestions tips or comments? Thanks

Hi Danali!

I haven't tried this myself, but it seems like something that would be safe and might give some relief.

Helping Ear Infection Naturally III
 onion
Onion juice is reputed to be the best first aid for an infected ear. So obtain onion juice either use a juicer or grate the onion very finely. Warm the juice just a little bit it should be lukewarm, not hot, and insert two drops into the infected ear. Covering the ear with a hot compress will also help to release blocked fluid.

I would start with a heating pad, see if maybe you have excess wax buildup.... keep the heating pad on the ear for 20 minutes, and then do an ear candle or two. I have had times when I would have to do two ear candles right in a row to get the blockage out.... then after the ear candle, put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the ear and let it bubble for about five minutes or so... I then told my daughter to put a few drops of olive oil in the ear, it seems to help the pain for some reason... I then rub cajeput oil (which is a sister oil to tea tree oil) on the skin below the ear, where I keep hoping the glands are... All this seems to help alot... It has saved us many a trips to the emergency room....
I would also recommend a neti pot, I havent ever used one, but have heard some really good things about them... Im wanting to buy one just in case I ever need it.

You could try the vicks on the feet trick... rub your feet with vicks vapor rub, and then put socks on and go to bed.... It has been debated on one of these forums before, alot of folks believe it doesnt work, but it seemed to help my grandkids ...might have been my imagination....

I also use eucalyptus oil in a vaporizer everytime it even looks like someone is getting sick... a plus side, it seems to help get rid of fleas and mosquitoes too.

I would eat alot of garlic and onions... One of my favorite meals lately is heating up a cup of broth, then slicing an onion and some garlic into the broth, and letting it cook for awhile... I love the taste, and supposedly onion and garlic helps get rid of colds

I have dealt will ear infections quite a bit.
Here are two options.
colloidial silver from www.nutrasilver.com drop it into your ear. Talk to the owner of this site for best application.
There are no tests to say it is safe during pregnancy so I cannot recommend it orally but I think it would work by putting it in your ears.

You can get ozonated oil and put it in your ear with a q tip. and this is a favorite treatment that I use. The small jar will do.
It will make your ears itch for a while but don't worry. it will pass. If you call to order talk to the ower of this site and hear what he has to say.

Thumbs down Neti Pot

I bought a nice Neti Pot at the Vitamin Cottage a couple of years ago. I used non-iodized sea salt and quality baking soda, as recommended for a good rinse.

I live in a dry climate, and have problems with dry/bleeding nasal passages, and thought using the Pot would also help with colds, allergies, etc.

Well, I stopped using after a month or so, and it's been retired in my bathroom vanity since. Although I never used it when I was "stuffed-up" or had a cold, there was a day where I had pain/pressure behind one of my eyes and one side of my face. The next issue was, out of nowhere, a good amount of water shooting out of my nose, without warning, after using the Neti Pot the previous day.

I'm not a big fan, may have to use the pot as a creamer some day, LOL!

I may be wrong, but I think using a Net Pot may actually cause an ear infection in certain instances.
