Default Walking "could ward off dementia"

Elderly people who get about by walking are less likely to suffer mental decline or even dementia, a study says.
Brain scans revealed that older people walking between six and nine miles a week appeared to have more brain tissue in key areas.
The Pittsburgh University study of 299 people suggested they had less "brain shrinkage" which is linked to memory problems.
The research was reported in the journal 'Neurology'

Hmmmmm.....I know a lot of people with Dementia and have worked with many. Walking and aerobic excercise are what many of them have done for years before their Dementia...and most of them still do it too.

The only people I've known to have some type of dementia have been elderly and have not had any type of exercise present in their lives. I strongly believe that exercise, even something as simple as walking, especially in the natural outdoors can not only help to avoid, but improve mental afflictions like dementia and depression.

Yeah, almost all people with Dementia are elderly. But don't underestimate the elderly. They walk, run, do push-ups, exercise bikes, other various exercise machines etc. Since people with Dementia are routine-oriented, they often still do their exercise routines. For example, my job used to be to walk with a 76 year old woman, two miles, twice a day. She walked at least 4 miles a day and sometimes 6. I am not discouraging exercise to prevent Dementia, but it is not guaranteed to work by any means.
