Default Lightning

Is it safe to come out yet?

Call me chicken, most of my day was spent in the hallway hiding from lightning today. Ended up making it rather comfy.. chair, tv snack table, drink, tons of reading material... lol
It was horrible! So very frightening!
The national geographic says that 'one bolt can contain up to one billion volts of electricity.' And it was dancin' all around my house. I could even hear the cracking from bolts that were way off in the distance.

Yikes! We were surrounded in the city as well! It was like something out of a movie! Thunder wasn't so bad, except for a few loud rolling rumbles, but doggie was not happy Even with his Thundershirt on, he was still sidling up to husband, poor little guy... wish I had some Bach flower remedy to give him (note to self - BUY IT!)

We are on a 9th floor surrounded by windows, so it was a great show, but your hallway sounds really nice also...

Glad you both stayed safe (and comfy). There's a lot of lightning strikes in Colorado. I'm the type that likes to watch the action, and need to remember to stay away from windows and doors. A loud thunder clap will get my (and the dog's) attention.

Just curious, how is the Thundershirt working for your dog, does it comfort him at all?

I like to watch also

The Thundershirt is ok, it calms him a bit - he's not the kind of dog that will try to run away or chew through walls when there is thunder or fireworks, but he trembles and likes to be close to people or in his crate

I think the whole process of putting it on, with treats involved, of course, is more of a distraction for him - maybe he trembles a bit less and if I distract him with a ball or toy, he will come and show some interest, then he goes back to being velcro dog - without the TS, he would not move...

But it doesn't hurt anyway, I have heard great success stories from friends, albeit with larger dogs, not sure if that has anything to do with it...

Here he is modeling his Thundershirt:

Oooh the sliding glass doors to the deck face east & that sky looked wicked!
That's actually the last thing I saw before retreating to the hallway hahaha

Interesting articles! Especially liked the first one where it tells the mts involvement in it all.

They're forecasting a repeat for today

Boohoo I was planning to go to the college for their 'music on the green' later to see a doo-wop group.. woulda been fun!
That storm seemed to come out of nowhere yesterday so it'll be too dangerous up on college hill to be running to a car when lightning is zappin' all over the place.

Luckily the sun baked the baskets (within minutes lol) I had drying out on the deck before it started pouring~

I have not experienced any significant storm for a few years now. We are in severe drought in central Texas. However when I first moved here 5 years ago, we had such a bad storm that it was like sitting under a Tesla Coil. No lightning bolt, just constant nonstop static like lightning. Hard to explain. I have a metal roof too. Very unpleasant. Even the thunder could not keep up with it. I don't even remember hearing the thunder. I don't know why they call these things thunder storms. I did not even have a clean closet to hide in. My closets are like little warehouses. The other problem was that I just moved from California where there are no thunderstorms - or tornadoes either.

Aww that would've been fun for sure, I see the doo-wop infomercial on TV on the weekend sometimes, and like to sing along. I used to think that you were safe in a vehicle due to the rubber tires on the ground, but I guess that's not the case.

OMG things would have been flyin' out of one of the closets to make room for me hahaha How did you stand it?!
Can't walk in the grass barefoot around here, tad too crunchy & brown for my tooties. Although, the rain has been working its magic turning somethings green again.

Me too! I'm reading about it & it seems as though it could be safe if the car is metal as the lightning will be redirected if it hits. I wonder how long it takes for the charge to wear off if you are struck, like if you were to touch something on the exterior of the vehicle.

Doesn't hold true if the car is fiberglass evidently.
